The Nevada Highway Patrol, Northern Command West, has received a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety. This grant supports the Washoe County School District and its public safety program during the 2021-2022 school year.
The Regional School Safety Program is a high visibility, multi-jurisdiction effort to increase safety in Washoe County School District school zones and nearby neighborhoods by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws. The goal is to reduce crashes near or within school zones and save lives by focusing on distracted driving, speed, seat belt, and pedestrian safety. Students, school staff, and families are a priority in our community.
Thanks to this grant award, the Nevada Highway Patrol, Northern Command West, will be able to team up with other law enforcement agencies and add extra patrols to saturate school zones with high driving complaints from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.
Law enforcement personnel will continue to enforce traffic safety laws year-round as part of their commitment to reduce crashes and save lives. Whether you are a driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Nevada Highway Patrol reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways a top priority.
