On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, River Wranglers and Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space (CCPROS) partnered with Carson City’s Pioneer High school to wrap cottonwoods at Riverview Park.

Seven students from various clubs at Pioneer joined Linda Conlin (River Wranglers) and Kelsey Stalker (Education Outreach Coordinator, Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space) to learn about water quality.

In addition to the lesson on river health, students learned about the importance of cottonwood wrapping. CCPROS Senior Natural Resource Specialist, Lyndsey Boyer provided a lesson about beavers, emphasizing the noticeable damage to cottonwoods along the river due to increased beaver activity in the area.

The students and teachers wrapped 30 trees! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space are grateful for their efforts and for Linda Conlin’s assistance in teaching a lesson in water quality.
