Depending on the location, snow flurries are flying Monday morning around western Nevada, with light snowfall expected through mid-morning, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow showers will be persistent this morning, forecasters say. Most valley areas will see only minor accumulations and mainly on non-paved surfaces, however just off valley floors and into the foothills and mountains an inch or two of accumulation is looking likely even on roadways, according to the weather service.

As of around 8 a.m. snow showers are happening in the Washoe Valley along I-580. Snow is sticking at the top of Kingsbury Grade, State Route 207 off Tramway in Douglas County. Chains or snow tires required on SR-341 from mile post 3.0 in Lyon County to mile post 10.8 in Storey County.

Lake effect snow showers could drop localized one inch accumulations around Pyramid Lake and Fernley.

Winds will bring localized road travel impacts for high profile vehicles, rough air for aviation, and choppy conditions to area lakes. Widespread gusts of 30-35 mph are expected with stronger gusts above 40 mph likely in the Eastern Sierra and Mineral County areas along Highways 395, 6, and 95.

Nevada Department of Transportation cameras are showing snow covered roads in these areas. Lake enhancement southeast of Pyramid Lake showing up on radar so rain, snow showers likely to be more persistent for Wadsworth, Fernley areas this morning.

Meanwhile, a freeze warning remains in effect from 11 p.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The weather service says to expect sub-freezing temperatures in the upper teens to upper 20s overnight.
