Sonoma Park in Carson City is now open for regular use as of Monday. While the park is open, construction projects will continue for several more weeks. A map is provided to show areas of the park that are still closed and where users can access the park safely.

During the park closure, city staff rehabilitated turf by aerifying, fertilizing, seeding, and resodding worn-out areas. These tasks will contribute to and help the turf recover and rejuvenate from the heavy use of this popular park.

Lastly, an irrigation audit (evaluation) to address issues and resolve any inefficiencies in the current irrigation system. Due to the installation of new concrete by Public Works, some irrigation lines and heads had to be relocated. A drip irrigation controller has been added at the east end of the park and will be used to water future pollinator plantings.

The new concrete path is still under construction, so the east portion of the park will remain closed until it is finished. New fencing along the east side of the park will include pedestrian and maintenance access for the safety of staff and the public.

A temporary construction fence will remain in place until all remaining projects are complete. We kindly request that the public use the alternate entrances, as indicated on the map provided, to enter Sonoma Park and avoid the construction area.

The city sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the continued temporary closure of the area. For a list of the other dog-friendly parks in Carson City, please visit Carson.org/parksandrec.
