A 40-year-old Sparks man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of felony drug trafficking after a K9 alerted to a vehicle that had a large quantity of methamphetamine inside, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Lawrence Brian McGee was taken into custody at 9:52 p.m., in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East for felony suspicion of drug trafficking, possession of controlled substance for sale, possession of stolen property and misdemeanor failure to stop or yield.
According to the arrest report, officers observed the man fail to stop at a red light on Highway 50 East at Airport Road while making a right turn. The man said during the traffic stop that he was from Reno on his way to see a friend at a Carson City casino.
A K9 exterior sniff of the vehicle resulted in a positive alert for drugs. The man was informed the dog alerted positive. He told the officer “there is no f***ing way that dog alerted on my car,” the arrest report states. The vehicle was searched where officers located a large amount of methamphetamine in the center console area of the vehicle.
The meth was packaged in three separate plastic baggies. The officer recognized the methamphetamine was packaged for sale. Officers recovered and weighed each baggie with results of 2.4 grams, 6.1 grams and 12.7 grams. All substances were tested with a positive result for meth. Also located were two license plates that were reported stolen out of Washoe County. McGee’s criminal history showed he had several past convictions for drug trafficking and one conviction of controlled substance for sale. Bail: $52,749.

— A 61-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of felony eluding after he failed to stop while traveling at a high rate of speed from Douglas County into Carson City, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Frank Angelo Yarwasky was booked at 4:19 a.m. on the felony charge and for misdemeanor obstruction. According to the arrest report, Douglas County sheriff’s deputies alerted dispatch that a vehicle was traveling northbound into Carson City and failed to yield.
A deputy observed the vehicle at Fairview and Carson Street traveling an estimated 70 mph. The vehicle continued northbound at a high rate of speed, going 85 in a posted 25 mph zone. The vehicle passed through the downtown area in the construction zone and there were people walking in the area, according to the arrest report.
When the vehicle reached Carson and Winnie streets, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which it then continued into a parking lot. The man exited the vehicle, which was smoking by that time, and took off running through the parking lot where he was caught and taken into custody, resisting arrest. Bail: $10,607.
— A 57-year-old Carson City man was booked Sunday, 4:34 a.m. in the 300 block of Stewart Street for felony suspicion of attempted burglary.
Arrested was Abdul Wali Wahab. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a m motel in the 300 block of North Stewart for a report of a male hitting the door and yelling at the female occupant in the room. Deputies were advised the occupant’s ex-boyfriend was outside the room and that he was kicking in the door in an attempt to make entry.
Deputies arrived at the motel and found the man yelling outside the room. The suspect said he was trying to get inside the room to see “who else” was in it. He demanded he be let into the room so he could see who was inside. The man was very agitated and had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath as he spoke, according to the arrest report.
Officers met with the female occupant who explained the man was her ex-boyfriend and that he was no longer allowed in her room and that the couple had been separated for some time. The entry door to the room was damaged to the extent where the door would not latch or lock. The woman said she had to push herself against the door to keep the man from gaining entry. She said she was in fear she would be physically harmed by the man if he came into the room. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. Bail: $20,000.
— A 49-year-old Bell, Calif., woman was arrested Sunday, 5:24 a.m. in the 2400 block of North Carson Street for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, the woman was stopped for driving with expired registration. Officers ran her name through dispatch which turned up the warrant. In her possession was a methamphetamine pipe. Bail: $1,429.
— A Carson City woman, Kayla Lynn Nicole Newman, was arrested Saturday, 7:10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way on felony suspicion of maintaing a drug house, and misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing a peace office.
Also arrested, was a 21-year-old woman, on suspicion of possession of a concealed weapon, a gross misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637. A 22-year-old man was also arrested for a misdemeanor warrant of violation of pre-trial supervision, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $4,137. Bail for Newman: $21,544.
— A 39-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 10:52 p.m. in the area of North Roop Street and East Winnie Lane on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and following too close. According to the arrest report, deputies were sent to the area for a non-injury crash and met with a female driver. She had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath when she spoke. It was determined she was at fault for the crash by following too closely causing the front end of her vehicle to crash into the rear of another vehicle.
The officer asked if she had consumed alcohol. The woman said she had a few drinks. She agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath sample of .275 and was arrested. At jail she provided two samples with results of .264 and .269. Bail: $1,284.
— A 50-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 9:18 p.m. in the area of Horizon and Silver Sage on for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a non-injury accident and made contact with the victim and the vehicle driver that ran into her. The woman stated she had two margaritas. She agreed to standardized fuel sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test with a .200 and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. She declined evidentiary tests and a judge granted a search warrant for a blood draw. Bail: $1,224.
— A 65-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 2:02 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street, Kohl’s on suspicion of petit larceny and disorderly conduct. The man allegedly selected a necklace and put it under his wheelchair seat.
He then went to the women’s section and removed a sweater from a rack. He was observed by store securing tearing off the merchandise tag on the seater. He then went to customer serve and attempted to return the necklace under his seat. He was denied the return. He went to the jewelry department and selected a watch. He returned to customer service and attempted to exchange the watch.
He became upset with customer service for the second exchange and then proceeded to the front of the store and made no attempt to pay for the watch or sweater. He was issued a citation for petit larceny. After he was issued the citation he became upset and began yelling obscenities at multiple customers entering the store. He was arrested. Bail: $594.
