By Denise Clodjeaux — Carson City’s Open Space and Trail System will be the featured topic at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting happening Tuesday.
Trails Coordinator Gregg Berggren and Open Space Manager Lindsey Boyer will be the featured speakers at the July 22 luncheon held at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom, 449 West King Street in Carson City. The event begins at noon and the public is invited to attend.
Boyer says the presentation will focus on how the city’s trails, open space and parks benefit everyone in the community.
“Our goal is to provide exceptional parks, open space, and diverse recreational opportunities for everyone while preserving our natural resources for future generations,” she explains. “Going forward our priority is to reinvest in aging infrastructure — such as repaving trailheads and parking areas, and leveraging grant funding to renovate some of our older facilities, such as the Mills Park Master Plan Improvement project.”
Boyer says they are also excited to discuss their most recent project. “In June, we completed the Prison Hill, West trail project. This included construction of a 2.4-mile multi-use pathway, which people of all ages and abilities are able to enjoy,” she said. “The project also included improvement to the Koontz trailhead such as added parking, a covered picnic area, restroom and fencing. This trailhead is one of our most used on Prison Hill, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to make these critical improvements.”
