Update 8:03PM: The brush fire Sunday evening in the area of Thompson Street and Minnesota Street has been knocked down and caused some damage to a house and a shed, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
Firefighters are in the mop-up phase of the fire, estimated to be around 2 acres at this time. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire took hold just after 7 p.m., causing a large plume of smoke that was seen throughout the city. Firefighters activated immediately and had much of it knocked down, with a few hot spots remaining, at around 7:30 p.m.
Mutual aid assistance included Truckee Meadows Fire and East Fork Fire.
Residents who were asked to evacuate by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office have returned to their homes.





Update 7:32 p.m. – According to Carson City Fire Department, forward progress on the fire has been halted.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies were called Sunday evening to a backyard brush fire in the 900 block of Thompson Street.
At 7:08 p.m. dispatch alerted the fire department on a large brush fire burning in a backyard.
Multiple fire units were called. The fire is threatening structures, according to dispatch. Evacuations are in progress.
