The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident Thursday morning in Dayton in which shots were fired in a dirt lot near a convenience store and a 76-year-old man was found dead. The incident is being investigated as a suicide.

At around 7:30 a.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the gas station and convenience store in Dayton for shots fired. Upon arriving, deputies discovered the man on the ground in front of his vehicle.

Witnesses from the store stated the man had shot himself and was possibly still alive. Life saving efforts were attempted but the man had succumbed to his wounds, according to Lyon County sheriff’s investigators in a news release.

A handgun was found at the scene and it appeared the man had shot himself, according to LCSO. No other people were injured. The man’s family was notified, according to LCSO.

The incident is under investigation and there is no danger to the public, according to LCSO.
