While voters eagerly await the results from today’s election, they may end up waiting a litter longer than usual thanks to the new election procedures caused by COVID-19.
UPDATE 9 p.m.: You can now find the updated first results here.
The polls across the state were set to close at 7 p.m.; however, according to the Secretary of State’s website as of 8 p.m., results cannot be announced until all polls have finished taking votes, and they are anticipating results to be announced around 10 p.m.
Extended times could be due to the need to sanitize and socially distance voters, as well as the fact that voting machines are not being used during this election. Instead, voters are being issued paper ballots identical to the ballots that were mailed to registered voters throughout the state.
All registered voters throughout the state were mailed their ballots for the primary. Just over 9,600 mail-in ballots were counted as of June 5 in Carson City. Additionally, voters were allowed to vote in-person today, June 9 at the Carson City Courthouse, though they were issued paper ballots as they would have received in the mail.
Carson Now will update with the results of both the local and statewide election as soon as they are available.
