Douglas County Sheriff’s Office

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will facilitate road closures and procession routes area graduates will take during high school commencement ceremonies through the Carson Valley this Saturday and at Lake Tahoe on June 19. Please remember the streets will be closed to traffic at approximately 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Detours around the parade routes will be available and are listed in detail below.

Douglas High School

The commencement parade begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. Starting around 8:30 a.m. the roads along the parade route will be closed to traffic as cars of graduating students’ line up to travel from the Douglas County Community & Senior Center to Douglas High School.

Detour Routes

Northbound: U.S. 395, Buckeye Road to Orchard to Toler Ave to Waterloo Lane

Southbound: U.S. 395 Waterloo Lane to Toler Ave to Orchard to Buckeye Road

Parade Route

Beginning at the Douglas County Community Center

Right on Waterloo Lane to U.S. Highway 395

Left on U.S. Highway 395 to Esmeralda Avenue

Left on Esmeralda Avenue to Eighth Street

Left on Eighth Street to County

Right on County Road to State Route 88

Straight at State Route 88 through roundabout to Mahogany Drive

Right at Douglas High School west parking lot

Ending at Douglas High School

Along with the Douglas High School graduation parade route, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to notify the public about the other high school parade routes and effected road closures.

Aspire High School

The Aspire graduates will start off the commencement parade, Saturday, June 6.

George Whittell High School

The commencement parade begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19. Starting around 9:30 a.m. Highway 50 will turn to one lane as students the road along the parade route will be one lane as cars of graduating students travel from the Kahle Community Center to Whittell High School.
