Last week, Barton Health and Carson Valley Health teamed up to provide free physicals for Douglas High School athletes during Examination Night.
About 186 student athletes were screened by local medical professionals, including providers from Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, to help them safely prepare for upcoming sports seasons.

This annual event, now in its 11th year, provides free required sports physicals and makes it easier for families to access the exams students need to participate. Students also connected with healthcare professionals who support youth health and sports safety throughout the community.
“These physicals are an important step in helping students safely participate in athletics,” said Paul Kennedy, athletic trainer at Douglas High School with Barton Health. “Community partnerships like this help make things easier for families and make it easier for students to stay active and involved in school sports.”
For those who missed Examination Night, free youth sports physicals are available every Thursday at Carson Valley Health Primary Care clinics at Minden Village and Topaz Ranch. On other weekdays students can make an appointment for a sports physical at these clinics for $25.
Helping kids stay healthy and involved in sports is one more way local organizations can show up for families, and that makes Douglas County stronger.
