Laughter, romance, and a message about what it means to want to live are at the core of “The Hit,” a critically acclaimed play performed in Carson City at the Brewery Art Center’s Maize Jesse Black Box Theater beginning Friday, May 25.
The play is being performed, in its first-ever community theatre run, by Northern Nevada’s longest-running theatre company, Proscenium Players.
“The Hit” centers around Susan (Theresa Res Martin) and her brother Steve (J Paul Malikowski), the owners of an antiques store. After being told she has cancer, Susan decides to order a hit… on herself. The hilarity ensues with a case of mistaken identity between Sam, an unsuspecting travel agent (Ron Flesher) and Samm, the hit-woman (Jennifer Lynn).
Unexpected sparks between Susan’s brother Steve and Samm and a store full of secrets fuel this farcical comedy. Adding to the farce is the appearance of the Boss, Mr. Slavo (Jeff Fast) and his associate Siposh (Cris Travieso). The store is filled with trinkets which attract a cast of curiously odd customers, from a lady who keeps getting her credit card declined and talks to her purchases (Shauna Johnson) to a woman who can’t help but flirt with Steve and well, everyone she meets (Diane Dye Hansen).
Warning: Blanks will be shot from a toy gun during this show. Get ready to have fun and don’t be alarmed. “The Hit” is directed by Jennifer Lynn.
