A birthday, a memory, and a heart full of generosity became the ingredients for something truly special at the Northern Nevada Dream Center.

It began with a simple act of kindness: a local woman donated the fixings for twelve birthday cakes in memory of her sister, who would have turned 53.

“It’s her third birthday in heaven,” she wrote. “She loved baking for her family and friends—and eating cake too. We aren’t promised tomorrow, so please enjoy, make sweet memories, and hug your loved ones tight.”

That heartfelt donation reached people like Ambrose Finn through our home delivery program, a Carson City resident who celebrated his birthday with a special cake.

“This is me, Ambrose Finn of Carson City, on my birthday. Thank you so very much!” he said, beaming with gratitude as he held the birthday treats made possible by a stranger’s love.

Stories like Ambrose’s are part of a larger wave of generosity happening through the Dream Center’s Virtual Food Drive, an online campaign that makes it easy for community members to donate groceries and meals and household essentials to families in need.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center has seen a significant increase in the number of individuals and families coming to the Center for food assistance.

There has been a 32% increase in just the last three weeks! At the same time, the current economic conditions are impacting food resources, making it more challenging to meet the growing need.

Whether it’s cake mix for a birthday or a weeks worth of groceries for a struggling family, every contribution becomes a lifeline—and a reminder that people care.

“At the Dream Center, we believe all donations matter,” said a representative. “Every act of giving helps us restore dignity and bring hope to our neighbors.”
