Windy conditions will persist Wednesday afternoon and evening around Carson City while snow is expected to move into the Sierra region with impacts to travel over the mountain passes around the Lake Tahoe Basin through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Lake Tahoe Basin with snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches possible at lake level and up to a foot above 7,000 feet according to the weather service.

A few light showers may move through western Nevada with very light accumulations possible for the Reno metro area, Carson City, Douglas and Storey counties, the weather service states.

Any snowfall before sunset Wednesday will be hard-pressed to accumulate, so the evening commute should not be heavily impacted, the weather service states. But the Thursday morning commute may pose some problems. Some snow is possible by early Thursday morning in the lower valleys east of the Sierra, but accumulations should be less than 0.5 inches.

Meanwhile, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday night for much of the Carson City region and Sierra. Expect west to southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph.

Stronger gusts up to 65 mph are likely this afternoon and evening in wind prone areas along the Highway 395 and Interstate 580 corridors, and possibly along Highway 50 between Dayton and Silver Springs.

The weather services advises that hazardous cross-wind conditions may result in loss of vehicle control, especially for high profile vehicles. Semi trucks will be in danger of tipping over in wind prone locations. Travel restrictions are likely for high profile vehicles, especially along Interstate 580 south of Reno.
