A 25-year-old convenience store clerk was arrested Thursday for suspicion of property destruction after he allegedly smashed the windows of a vehicle in which the driver had been arrested earlier for DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a deputy responded Thursday morning, 10:45 a.m. to the AM/PM located in the 700 block of South Carson Street for a report of damage to a motor vehicle.
The deputy met with the store manager who advised that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested a subject earlier for suspicion of DUI and left the arrestee’s vehicle on scene in the parking lot with management permission.
Convenience store staff realized later the windshield of the vehicle had been smashed and the right side smaller window had been bashed in from the outside. Once staff looked at the security video, they realized the graveyard clerk caused the damages, the arrest report states.
Staff played the surveillance video for the investigating deputy. The video showed at around 2:48 a.m. Thursday, the clerk went outside of the store in what appeared to be a smoke break. He stood in front of the vehicle, a truck, and began to kick the front bumper and the right hand side headlight. The suspect then jumped on the hood of the vehicle and kicked the windshield at least two times until the middle of the windshield cracked and caved in.
The suspect then stepped to the right side of the vehicle and appeared to be hitting the small side window. At one point, he vanished from the span of the cameras. Then the suspect went inside the store, the arrest report states.
The investigating deputy then asked and obtained the suspect’s information from the clerk. Meanwhile, the owner of the vehicle arrived on scene at which time the deputy advised him of the incident. The owner wanted to place the clerk under arrest for the incident. The suspect was arrested for suspicion of property destruction, a gross misdemeanor. Bail: $2,500.
