With rising water levels from Spring runoff, Carson City Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (CCSSAR) conducted their annual Swift Water Rescue training on the Carson river in Brunswick Canyon.

CCSAR consists of certified Swift Water Rescue technicians and ground support members.

This time of year, water flow through the Carson river are at peak levels. Swift water hazards include dangerous currents, strainers (debris filtering water but trapping objects), cold-water shock, and foot entrapment in rocks.

Moving water as shallow as knee-deep can knock adults down, with risks increased by debris and undercurrents. Always wear a life jacket, and never walk in fast water.

CCSAR is a volunteer component of Carson City Sheriff’s Department. Activities include both rural and urban searches/rescue, and public events. For more information or interest in joining, please go to https://carsonsar.wordpress.com/
