By Daniel J. Neverett — At their March 20 dinner meeting, the Carson City Leisure Hour Club recognized the outstanding work of two  community organizations with $500 donations. Accepting the check for Night Off The Streets (NOTS) was Don Wingfield, and Gloria Seaton accepted the donation for the Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary.

Leisure Hour Club President Ed Schnabel noted that the two groups strive to improve lives in the greater Carson City community. Through the efforts of their dedicated volunteers, the Auxiliary is a coalition between the group and the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with their fundraising supporting the medical center’s quality healthcare philosophy.

In addition, Schnabel commented on the work by NOTS, a volunteer-run program in Carson City, which offers people experiencing homelessness a space to come out of the cold using the resources of local churches. He extended the club’s best wishes for the continued success of both groups.

The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. Celebrating its 129th year, the organization continues to focus on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music, and literature.
