Art Hernandez of the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 presented a $1,000 Elks National Foundation grant to the Veterans’ Guest House, which provides United States Military service veterans and their familiesโ temporary overnight accommodations while they are receiving treatment at a medical facility in the Northern Nevada area.
Typically, guests reside at least 35 miles away, are independent and able to care for themselves or have a caregiver. The Guest House offers all the comforts of home with semi-private bedrooms and baths, a continental breakfast, kitchen facilities where guests can make their own meals, a living room, a television room and internet/Wi-Fi capability.
For those with physical challenges, an elevator and handicap access make it easy to get around. Although there are many amenities, most importantly, they provide a safe, caring and supportive home at a time when vets or their family members are dealing with more pressing issues.
