Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski provides an update of the Feb. 20, 2014 Board of Supervisors meeting in this edition of It’s Your City.

Among board actions, supervisors accepted a $40,000 grant for fire fuel reduction tree service and reviewed other grants. The board reviewed and accepted a liquor license application for Francisco’s mexican restaurant set to open in April at the Carson Mall.

Supervisors also heard a report from the sheriff’s office on liquor license compliance checks to ensure that establishments aren’t selling to minors. The board learned Carson City has the highest compliance rate in the state of Nevada at around 90 percent.

Bonkowski provided an update on the search for a new city manager and the 1/8th-cent sales tax increase in which the board voted 4 to 1 in favor of the increase. A second reading will be heard at the next Supervisors meeting.

The money would pay for a new multi-purpose athletic center, known as the “MAC,” a new animal services facility, and streetscape beautification and safety enhancements along the Carson City’s main commercial corridors and the downtown area.
