The Carson City School District Board of Trustees will convene Tuesday to review the district’s annual financial audit, hear a “State of the District” address, and assess the latest school climate survey results.
The regular board meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 24 in the Robert Crowell Board Room at the Carson City Community Center.
It will be preceded by a 5:30 p.m. workshop focusing on the district’s Debt Service Fund, Capital Improvements Fund, and ongoing bond projects.
Topping the regular agenda is a presentation and possible action on the fiscal year 2025 annual independent audit, a requirement under Nevada Revised Statutes.
Auditor David Silva, of Silva, Sceirine & Associates, will present the final financial statements. According to the meeting’s executive summary, the district’s general fund-ending balance increased by $647,000, bringing it from $17.3 million to $18.5 million.
This leaves the district in a stable position with a fund balance hovering around 20 percent, similar to the prior two years.
Furthermore, the Nevada Department of Education has indicated that the state will not step in to sweep these ending fund balance dollars, alleviating a recent financial concern for the district.
Following the financial review, Superintendent Andrew Feuling will deliver a “State of the District” presentation. The address will provide an informational overview of current conditions and outline the district’s trajectory for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.
Feuling will also provide a quarterly update on the accountability metrics associated with “Empower Carson City 2027,” the district’s strategic plan. While the full data report will be provided at the meeting, preliminary agenda notes indicate that the latest success standard metrics are continuing to trend in a positive direction overall.
In other major business, Chief Academic Officer Brandon Bringhurst will present the results of the Fall 2025 Staff and Student Climate Surveys. These annual statewide surveys are designed to gauge the school experience across five key topics: cultural and linguistic competence, relationships, physical safety, emotional safety, and bullying.
Rounding out the agenda are several routine and consent items. The board is expected to vote in a single action on standard purchase orders, payroll journals, and the approval of recent meeting minutes from January and February. The consent agenda also includes the approval of certified staff employment offers.
Under informational non-action items, the board will review notifications of changes to classified and nursing staff. The agenda also reminds families of upcoming early dismissals for staff professional learning scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25, and March 11.
Public comment will be accepted in person at the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, or via email. Emailed comments must include the submitter’s full name and be sent to publiccomment@carson.k12.nv.us no later than 12:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
