Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) has announced the return of its annual fundraiser, Bark, Whine & Dine, scheduled for April 25, 2026. The Western-themed evening will bring the community together to support programs that directly reduce animal suffering in Carson City.

Founded in 2012 to help build Carson City’s new animal shelter, CASI has grown into a volunteer-driven nonprofit focused on practical, long-term solutions that benefit animals and the families who care for them.

Through its flagship Critter Fixer program, CASI provides low-cost spay and neuter vouchers to low-income pet owners. To date, nearly 1,700 pets have received services through the program.

“Whether providing spay/neuter access to pets whose families can’t otherwise afford it or assisting with emergency medical costs through our partnerships with Shakespeare Fund and Options Veterinary Care, CASI continues to help where needed,” CASI founder Lisa Schuette said. “Bark Whine & Dine is an opportunity to enjoy a delightful evening, hear about the past year’s accomplishments, and contribute to a worthy cause.”

In addition to Critter Fixer, CASI supported the construction of the Carson City animal shelter, fully funded and installed its exercise yard, and donated a four-wheel-drive animal control vehicle. The organization continues to assist with shelter-related needs as they arise.

This year’s Bark, Whine & Dine will feature a Western buffet, silent and live auctions, and music from Ten Dollar Pony.

CASI Volunteer Jo Adamczyk, who coordinated CASI’s involvement in the Barracuda golf fundraiser for over a decade, emphasized the power of local support.

“One very special thing everyone in Carson City should know is that our stunning shelter was built with the help of generous local donations,” Adamczyk said. “Folks who saw the need and acted have made a lasting impact on our community and precious critters.”

“I don’t think that people realize how many animals have been spayed and neutered through Critter Fixer,” said Board member Trish Kelliher. “And, I don’t think people appreciate the impact of that in terms of fewer animals ending up in the shelter thereby reducing costs for the shelter.”

She sad that the event highlights what average citizens can accomplish by working together. “Supporting Critter Fixer and our other programs means you are helping not just one animal, but many — and the families who love them.”

Volunteer Robin Ponte echoed Kelliher’s thoughts: “Volunteering with CASI makes me feel like I am making a difference in my community.”

Organizers are currently seeking donations for the live and silent auctions, or financial contributions that directly support CASI programs serving local pets and their families.
