The Carson High School boys soccer team seized a major opportunity last week, defeating Damonte Ranch in a showdown with the Sierra League title on the line.

The win created a three-way tie for first place among Carson, Damonte Ranch and Wooster. Under NIAA tiebreaker rules, Carson was awarded the league championship on the strength of its head-to-head results.

The title is Carson’s first divisional championship since 2017 and earns the Senators a first-round bye in the NIAA Regional Playoffs. Carson will face Sparks High School, which advanced with a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Wooster on Saturday afternoon.

The matchup carries special meaning for the coaching staff and for the players, who have put in tremendous work all season. The two teams met earlier this year in a non-league game that Sparks won 3-1, though the score didn’t tell the whole story; the Senators controlled play for much of the match.

The community is invited to cheer on the Senators this Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online at https://gofan.co/event/6995500?schoolId=NIAA.
