A Winter Storm Watch has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for Carson City and surrounding counties from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
While rain and snow are expected Monday, the main snowfall impacts for the valley floors are expected Tuesday afternoon and evening. Valley floors could see 4 to 8 inches of snowfall, with foothill areas above 5,000 feet receiving 8 to 16 inches through Wednesday morning.
Strong and gusty winds will accompany this storm, with Tuesday seeing gusts up to 50 mph and up to 60 mph in wind-prone locations. Localized blowing snow may impact wind prone areas. Plan on impacts to the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of western Nevada from Monday 4 p.m. until Wednesday 4 a.m. The advisory is for southern Lyon and Mineral counties, 4 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters said the winter storm for these areas could bring 1-3 inches of snow with localized higher amounts of 3-6 inches and wind gusts 40-50 mph along ridge tops.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the greater Lake Tahoe area, Mono County and the Sierra. The National Weather Service three-day snow totals in the High Sierra could reach 3-5 feet, with 1-3 feet in Sierra valleys (includes Tahoe).
Wind gusts 100+ mph along ridgetops, with 35-45 mph in valley locations. Up to 65 mph for wind prone locations. The highest snowfall rates are expected Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening with near zero visibility in the Sierra.
