Carson City Ward 1 Supervisor Stacey Giomi announces he will run for re-election in 2022. Giomi was first elected in 2018, after decades of work in public service.
“It may sound like a cliche, but I’m running for re-election for the same reason I ran to begin with. I feel a deep connection to this community and the people who live here. I’ve dedicated my life to community service and working with the Board of Supervisors provides me the opportunity to advocate for our citizens and make our community a great place to live.”
Giomi worked for the Carson City Fire Department for nearly 40 years, rising through the ranks to Fire Chief before retiring. Since leaving the fire department Giomi has worked as the Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Center, Inc. He currently serves at the Director of Operations for Rural Programs. The statewide nonprofit provides health services to uninsured, under-insured and the homeless in Nevada.
“I’m proud of the work the board has accomplished over the past four years,” Giomi says. “I think the work we did during the COVID crisis to provide essential city services and work with businesses and citizens of this community to ensure their safety would be near the top of my list. We also accomplished many infrastructure improvements to our essential services, such as water and sewer systems, roads, and increasing resources for public safety.”
When asked what he hopes to accomplish in the next four years, the list is extensive.
“I believe that the economy will continue to be a big question mark and that it is essential for the city to ensure we have adequate emergency reserves on hand so that we can weather an economic downturn while still providing essential services,” he says. “Also, Carson City’s master plan is decades old and needs to be updated. I feel that our community should help us decide how Carson City will grow over the next 10 plus years and an updated master plan will help accomplish that.”
Giomi also says that he wants address deferred maintenance issues that have arisen over the course of the past 10-15 years, including water, wastewater, storm water, and building & facility repairs and updates.
“Public safety will also continue to be a priority for me. We need an additional fire station, plus we need to address the needs of our citizens who suffer from mental health issues.”
