A 23-year-old woman was jailed Wednesday and faces felony charges including harboring a fugitive after being arrested at a casino, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Sierra Kaylynn Burton, 23, of Wellington, also faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, the woman and two males entered a casino in the 1800 block of North Edmonds. A casino manager believed the two males were underage and asked them for identification. One provide an expired driver’s license and the other ran out of the building.

The woman was inside the building when a deputy arrived. He asked the woman for identification as she also appeared underage. She provided the officer her identification. The deputy asked her about the two males she was with. She said she only knew one of them and gave a first name. She refused to say anything about them or why she was with them. A deputy asked how she got to the casino. She said that her vehicle was in the parking lot.

The deputy had no probable cause to detain her, so he gave Burton her identification back and went to the car the woman said she drove in.

The officer looked inside the vehicle through the window and saw a handgun grip and approximately six hypodermic devices in plain view next to the weapon along with torn baggies with white residue on them. The deputy took photos from the exterior window of what he saw.

The deputy went back inside and detained the woman. Another deputy arrived to assist. The arresting deputy used his drug-detection dog Ivo to conduct an exterior sniff around the vehicle with the dog alerting positive.

The deputy read the woman her Miranda rights. She became argumentative and wanted to know why she was being arrested. The officer advised she was detained at the time. She was asked about drugs in the car. She said there was marijuana inside and admitted she knew about the hypodermic devices. She gave officers consent to search the vehicle and provided them the key to her car.

Deputies retrieved the hypodermic devices with drug residue from the driver’s seat floorboard, along with a .177 caliber pellet gun. Inside officers found an empty baggie of marijuana and a lip balm container counting methamphetamine.

She was asked about the two men again. She provided the name of one of the men and said he was wanted by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy asked what he was wanted for. The woman said she wasn’t sure but “he was on the run,” the arrest report states. The woman faces charges of harboring a fugitive, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Bail: $13,637.
