Famed country rock band at Silver City, early Carson City history, live comedy and more this weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. The Nevada State Museum is offering a step back into Carson City’s history on Saturday, Jan. 11, complete with a presentation from the city’s founding family.

It was in January of 1870 when the doors of the Carson City Mint were opened to the public by its first superintendent — and Carson City’s founder — Abe Curry.

Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum in Carson City to open Monday

Carson City Historical Society spearheads campaign to save Adele's building

The Carson City Historical Society Board held an emergency meeting on Dec. 21 to discuss the eminent demolition of Adele’s, and strategized on how this historic building could be preserved.

The board voted to pursue a fund raising campaign to work with the community to preserve the 155 year-old Adele’s building at 1112 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nev.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

Events around Carson City for Thursday, Dec. 12

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Jean Marie Hamilton
September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

Iconic Café at Adele’s sign stays in family, finds new home at Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton

The familiar neon “BAR” sign that welcomed diners to the well-known Café at Adele’s restaurant in Carson City for decades, has been removed, but it didn’t stay dark long. It’s red neon glow now welcomes diners to Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton.

Santa Trains steam up for 35th year starting this weekend at Carson City railroad museum
