The sights and sounds of Stewart Indian School can once again be heard at the newly re-opened museum in Carson City.

The Jazz & Beyond festival committee is rescheduling many of the events originally planned for August 2020 because of the recent rise in coronavirus cases. However, the committee plans to go ahead with the second annual Open Studios Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23. Admission is free.

When COVID-19 reached Carson City in March, establishments and local businesses were forced to close during the statewide shutdown.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the Nevada State Museum took an optimistic approach to improve and expand its online network. Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the awards for Nevada Humanities CARES: Emergency Relief Grants for Nevada Humanities and Cultural Organizations. Forty-six cultural and humanities organizations across Nevada received $368,873 in federal CARES Act grants.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum will reopen to the public on Monday, July 20, thanks to a generous donation from the family of a former Stewart Indian School principal. Opened in January and closed to the public in March because of the current health crisis, the Cultural Center faced severe budget cuts.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and Court Appointed Special Advocate are having a community event dedicated to Pokemon Go and family fun. The event includes playing Pokemon Go, a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, raffle prizes, and so much more.

The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum received approval of a grant from the Western States Arts Federation CARES Act Fund in the amount of $20,000.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has issued $392,250 in federal funds to 79 arts organizations through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $10,000, based on each group’s total annual revenue.

We are traveling the world this year! During the 5-day art camp students ages 5-10 will “visit” Asia, South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia to experience the art, culture, and music of these continents. Each day of the week will focus on the art and traditions of each of the continents. Each camper will have their “passport” stamped daily and will design a “travel bag” for all of their camp art projects.

Coin Press No. 1, which stamped coins at the Carson City Mint from 1870 to 1893, will operate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 4 at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City. This will be the first time the museum has operated Coin Press No. 1 since it closed temporarily in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Carson City Host Lions will hold an Installation Dinner on Wednesday, June 24 beginning with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson City Plaza Events Center, with dinner following at 6 p.m. Region Chair Adam Hopkins from the Reno Cigar Lions Club will perform the installation ceremony.
