“The sun will come out tomorrow!” Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents the musical Annie, Jr.! Based on the Broadway favorite and well-known comic strip, Annie, Jr. recounts the adventures of a spunky Depression era orphan (Annie) determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage, run by the sinister Miss Hannigan.

Performances of Annie, Jr. will be held December 2 & 9 at 7 pm, December 3 & 10 at 4 pm and 7 pm and December 4 & 11 at 4 pm at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson Street. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for ages 12 and under and can be purchased through our website at www.wildhorsetheater.com or by calling 887-0438.

Oscar Wilde’s 'The Importance of Being Earnest'

On October 28th the Readers Theater Small Group of the First United Methodist Church will present Oscar Wilde’s play “The Importance of Being Earnest” at 7:00 p.m.

The play originally opened in London on Valentine’s Day, 1895 to rave reviews, which have continued to this day. A comedy, it is a sharp commentary on upper class British society, of which Wilde himself was a member. Here he criticizes (satirizes or mocks) the institution of marriage, as well as love, for its emphasis on appearance instead of substance.

Occupy Carson City to protest Saturday

Occupy Carson City, an offshoot of the worldwide Occupy Wall Street movement, will be staging a protest Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at the Nevada State Legislature on Carson St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They invite the media and the public to attend. Anyone who encourages violence will be politely asked to leave. This will not be an occupation – there will be no camping.

AAUW presents scholarships to two Carson women

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch is pleased to announce that Tania Villanueva and Alexis Fallon are the 2011 recipients of Branch scholarships. Both young women are currently attending UNR.
Each year the Capital Branch presents scholarships to graduating high school seniors. The money is raised through annual Holiday Pecan Sales and A Feast of Chocolate, which is held each February. The women of the Branch thank all who assisted them by participating in these local fund raisers.

Gold's Gym IHEAL A Thon

Gold's Gym is holding a fundraiser to benefit the victims directly affected by the IHOP tragedy. There are numerous events that we will be doing that day. Among them are: a dunk tank donated by Kemp's Fun Jumpers. The Mayor is going to be in that dunk tank between noon and 1 pm. We have Firkin Fox doing BBQ. There will be a DJ and a popcorn machine. We are holding a "Sponsor A Slacker". That entails people getting sponsored to come to a 45 minute class designed to kick their tails! There is also a "Spin A Thon". Sponsor sheets are available at Gold's Gym.
