Shifting Paradigms: A Capital City Arts Initiative Nevada Neighbors talk set for Wednesday

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a talk by artists and writers Andreana Donahue and Tim Ortiz. Their illustrated talk, "Shifting Paradigms" is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union, 302 N Carson St, Carson City.

The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. CCAI will host an exhibition reception on Friday, August 17, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room.

The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its group show, "Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth", at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition with art by 17 artists will be in the gallery from through Sept. 27, 2018.

Carson City organizations among 27 Nevada Humanities 2018-2019 grant recipients

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce that 27 grants totaling over $104,500 were awarded to fund humanities programs across Nevada, including four in Carson City area.

With over a decade on stage his career has taken him to over 30 states, a dozen countries, and three continents. Performing in every venue from the small town bar or comedy clubs, to Large Vegas Casinos, and even overseas entertaining US troops. You may recognize him from XM radio, Doug Benson's mocumentary "Super High Me", or NBC's "Last Comic Standing."

Mike Beck is asolo artist who is a regularly featured performer at The National Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering in Elko. He has cowboyed on some of central Nevada's largest cattle ranches.

Nevada history buffs can view ‘The Ox-bow Incident’

RENO — “The Ox-bow Incident,” a 1943 motion picture adapted from an iconic novel by the same name by one of Nevada’s most famous authors, will be shown at April’s High Noon Shootout with Neal Cobb at the Nevada Historical Society.

The film will be shown on April 19 at noon at the Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia St., in Reno. Admission is $5, free for members and children 17 and younger.

Lake Tahoe shoreline plan coming together, with more work to do

School is out and summer is in full swing at Lake Tahoe. Visitors and residents are heading to beaches and launching boats, kayaks, and standup paddleboards to get out and enjoy the jewel of the Sierra. Millions of people visit Tahoe each year and the shoreline is where they go to experience its famously cold, clear, blue water.

He'll offer another of his extraordinary readings at the Silver City School House at 385 High Street on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1pm. James Hoggard, the former poet laureate of Texas, writes,“Lee’s poems will make you laugh till your tears make it impossible to see the page.”

Named one of the 12 greatest writers to ever emerge from the state by Utah Endowment for the Humanities, David Lee was Utah’s first and longest serving poet laureate.

Marielle Toll Among Spring Resident Artists in Silver City, Nevada

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Each year, the Resident Artist Program in Silver City hosts at least one emerging artist, in addition to hosting established artists. This year, Marielle Toll, a multi-talented emerging artist, was awarded a residency in the "emerging artists" category. At 18 she is already showing remarkable skill and talent in photography, illustration, and web site design.
