Every week, as I have for the last two years, I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community. Some of it is family friendly, some is just for adults, but all of it is nearby.

'Top Chef' restaurateur Ryan Scott returns Saturday to Fallon for Tractors and Truffles

Nevada 150 Sesquicentennial events lined up through September

Over 400 events have been held across the Silver State since Nevada Day 2013, in celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, with many more ahead. July 4 holiday weekend activities lined up for Carson City and surrounding areas

The Nevada Rural Counties RVSP carnival runs through the weekend at Mills Park. Tonight RSVP will host a spectacular fireworks celebration over Carson City to go along with its 22nd annual holiday carnival.
Virginia City prepares for July 4 with parade, Old West celebration on the boardwalk

Davidson for nearly 30 minutes, you'll feel the boom in your bones this July 4 as the fireworks soar high above the town and into Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.
Ron Wood center to honor John Hurzel as Community Leader of the Year at Governor's Mansion

John is a long time resident of Carson City and contributes his efforts toward enhancing the lives of many through his culinary talents and selfless generosity. John offers his expertise to youth interested in the culinary arts and has been a supporter of many non-profit organizations with a healthy nutritional focus.
Friends of CASI (Carson Animal Services Initiative) working hard to build a new animal shelter

Starting the year out with ambitious goals of raising more money for the shelter construction fund is only part of CASI’s mission.

Winter Wine and All That Jazz benefit for the Brewery Arts Center set for Jan. 18
Submitted by editor on Fri, 01/10/2014 - 6:38pmThe Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1977 has partnered with the Carson Nugget as well as various vineyards and vendors to present Winter Wine and All That Jazz, an evening of wine tasting, music, dancing, a live art demonstration, silent auction and raffles.
This annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Carson Nugget from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $30 per person and are available for purchase at www.breweryarts.org. For more info call the Brewery Arts Center office at 775-883-1976
Local Author, Thomas Paul, Announces New Fiction Book About the Housing Crisis

Unfortunately, many Nevada residents will be able to relate to this modern-day David versus Goliath tale.
The story follows the main character, Barry Joseph, and his family through the challenges of trying to stay in their home despite the myriad of efforts to cooperate with the bank's endless requests and demands. Eventually, Barry finds himself compelled to take matters into his own hands.
'Jazz and All That Wine' event Saturday, Oct. 5 in Reno

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Nevada presents its annual "Jazz and All That Wine" event on Saturday, October 5, 7-10 p.m., at the fellowship, 780 Del Monte Lane in Reno, just west of Whole Foods.
Enjoy wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres throughout the evening.
Music is by local jazz favorites 'No comprende,' featuring vocalist CeCe Gabel, Bill Hecht on piano, and Mac Esposito on bass.

Fundraiser for St. Mary's Art and Retreat Center October 6

All proceeds will assist with the restoration of the 1875 historic building that houses the Center.

The event will be on May 18 from 5pm to 9pm at the Governor's Mansion. The event serves to honor Charlie and Karen as two of the unsung heroes of our community. The event also benefits the Ron Wood Family Resource Center. Congressman Mark Amodei will serve as auctioneer.

Winter Wine and All That Jazz in photos

The wine tasting and jazz event was a fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center. Attendees sipped, sampled and tasted more than 40 wines from around the region, listened to great jazz and even danced into the evening.

Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation ramps up season at Lake Tahoe with new programs

With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. St. Mary’s in the Mountains, Virginia City to celebrate 150 years

This icon of the Comstock is the birthplace of Catholicism in the State of Nevada.
The celebration will begin on Friday evening, September 14, with a wine tasting as well as guided tours of the historic and recently renovated church and museum, 4 pm to 6 pm. Wine from St. Mary’s Mad Monk Wine Cellar and commemorative glasses will be available for purchase.

Sample the Sierra festivities at South Lake Tahoe planned for Labor Day weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/16/2012 - 1:55pmSpend Labor Day Weekend in South Lake Tahoe sampling the best food, wine, and art in the Sierra Nevada Region. The 3rd annual Sample the Sierra farm-to-fork festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 on Ski Run Boulevard.
This year, 15 local restaurants and farmers will be paired together to produce mouthwatering samples for festival-goers to enjoy. Each food sample will be paired with an accompanying wine, also local to the region.
