Happy Friday, Carson City. Many people in our area have Facebook accounts, but not everyone, so I am pleased to bring you the event list that is featured on my Facebook page, I love Carson City.

Every week, as I have for the last two years, I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community. Some of it is family friendly, some is just for adults, but all of it is nearby.

Northern Nevada’s premier local food event returns Sept. 13 to Fallon, Nev. showcasing three of the region’s top culinary experts during Tractors and Truffles, a day of farm tours, wine tasting and fine cuisine topped off with a multi-course dinner prepared and served on-site in Fallon’s beautiful Oats Park.

The deadline to submit applications for Official and Signature Nevada 150 events will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12. Over 400 events have been held across the Silver State since Nevada Day 2013, in celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, with many more ahead. The July 4 holiday weekend has arrived and there are plenty of activities going on today through the weekend around Carson City.

The Nevada Rural Counties RVSP carnival runs through the weekend at Mills Park. Tonight RSVP will host a spectacular fireworks celebration over Carson City to go along with its 22nd annual holiday carnival.

Fourth of July on the Comstock rocks. Virginia City offers one of the region’s longest firework displays. Echoing off Mt. Davidson for nearly 30 minutes, you'll feel the boom in your bones this July 4 as the fireworks soar high above the town and into Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.

Ron Wood Family Resource Center in Carson City will honor John Hurzel for his service to children, families and the community on May 17, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion.

John is a long time resident of Carson City and contributes his efforts toward enhancing the lives of many through his culinary talents and selfless generosity. John offers his expertise to youth interested in the culinary arts and has been a supporter of many non-profit organizations with a healthy nutritional focus.

The dedicated volunteers of Friends of CASI or better known as CASI have been diligent in their mission to make a new animal shelter a reality for Carson City residents. Starting the year out with ambitious goals of raising more money for the shelter construction fund is only part of CASI’s mission.

The event will take place at the Carson City Nugget on February 7th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. The evening event will include wine tasting, appetizers, chocolate and entertainment.

Its mission is to raise funds to assist the municipality of Carson City, Nevada to build a safe and modern animal shelter for all animals in need.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1977 has partnered with the Carson Nugget as well as various vineyards and vendors to present Winter Wine and All That Jazz, an evening of wine tasting, music, dancing, a live art demonstration, silent auction and raffles.

This annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Carson Nugget from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $30 per person and are available for purchase at www.breweryarts.org. For more info call the Brewery Arts Center office at 775-883-1976

RENO — Local author Thomas Paul just released his book , “Living in Limbo” featuring a family's roller coaster journey through the housing crisis. Unfortunately, many Nevada residents will be able to relate to this modern-day David versus Goliath tale.

The story follows the main character, Barry Joseph, and his family through the challenges of trying to stay in their home despite the myriad of efforts to cooperate with the bank's endless requests and demands. Eventually, Barry finds himself compelled to take matters into his own hands.

Looking for an enjoyable evening of music, wine and art? The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Nevada presents its annual "Jazz and All That Wine" event on Saturday, October 5, 7-10 p.m., at the fellowship, 780 Del Monte Lane in Reno, just west of Whole Foods.

Enjoy wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres throughout the evening.

Music is by local jazz favorites 'No comprende,' featuring vocalist CeCe Gabel, Bill Hecht on piano, and Mac Esposito on bass.

In addition, gently used unique art and jewelry will be available for enviable prices.

Virginia City’s St. Mary's Art and Retreat Center, the Gold Hill Hotel, and the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture will be co-hosting an event called “Turn up the Heat – Saving the Boiler at the Arts Center.” The event, held at the Gold Hill Hotel, will include a wine tasting and art auction. All proceeds will assist with the restoration of the 1875 historic building that houses the Center.

Street Vibrations is in its 19th year and growing strong, Randy Burke of Roadshows, the Street Vibrations guru, is always looking to expand his empire of fun and memorable events. Well, this year he has partnered with the family owned and operated HorseShoe Club Casino.

We will be honoring Charlie and Karen Abowd as our Community Leaders of the Year as part of Ron Wood Family Resource Center's annual event!

The event will be on May 18 from 5pm to 9pm at the Governor's Mansion. The event serves to honor Charlie and Karen as two of the unsung heroes of our community. The event also benefits the Ron Wood Family Resource Center. Congressman Mark Amodei will serve as auctioneer.

At least 350 attended Saturday night's Winter Wine and All That Jazz at the Carson Nugget Ballroom in Carson City. The wine tasting and jazz event was a fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center. Attendees sipped, sampled and tasted more than 40 wines from around the region, listened to great jazz and even danced into the evening.

The Love our Pets Wine Tasting will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation at Lake Tahoe has opened registration for the 2012 – 2013 competitive and development ski and snowboard programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online and at the HSSF building.

St. Mary’s in the Mountains Catholic Church of Virginia City, will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of its founding with three days of celebration on September 14, 15 and 16, 2012. This icon of the Comstock is the birthplace of Catholicism in the State of Nevada.

The celebration will begin on Friday evening, September 14, with a wine tasting as well as guided tours of the historic and recently renovated church and museum, 4 pm to 6 pm. Wine from St. Mary’s Mad Monk Wine Cellar and commemorative glasses will be available for purchase.

Spend Labor Day Weekend in South Lake Tahoe sampling the best food, wine, and art in the Sierra Nevada Region. The 3rd annual Sample the Sierra farm-to-fork festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 on Ski Run Boulevard.
This year, 15 local restaurants and farmers will be paired together to produce mouthwatering samples for festival-goers to enjoy. Each food sample will be paired with an accompanying wine, also local to the region.
