CARSON CITY — More than eight months into the Nevada guard’s support of the battle against COVID-19, the stubborn microscopic enemy showed no sign of surrender as many of the state’s counties reported record number of cases in late fall.

Carson Middle School STEM instructor, Katelyn O'Laughlin organized her students and staff members for a fall clean-up event in the Wetlands habitat. Efforts will continue Wednesday, Nov. 4 from when school ends at 2:15 to 4 p.m.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to create a new ordinance relating to hemp cultivation within city limits on Thursday, allowing for indoor cultivation within certain zoning districts, effectively blocking outdoor agricultural cultivation.

The Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA) provides for the sale of certain federal lands in Clark County, Nevada for development. Money from the sale of the land is then largely used to acquire environmentally sensitive land and, in a broad sense, to fund conservation and restoration projects across the state.

Featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon will be Patrick Donnelly, Nevada State Director of the Center for Biological Diversity. He will explain the Center's opposition to the proposed expansion of the Long Canyon Mine near Wells.

The Carson River Coalition in conjunction with the Carson Water Subconservancy District invites you to the 2020 Carson River Watershed Management Forum. This year’s forum will be a 2-day event at Marlette Hall, Cedar Building, Western Nevada College, Carson City.

Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.

The Nature Conservancy in Nevada, in partnership with the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage and the Desert Research Institute, recently completed the Nevada Wetland Rapid Assessment Method, a draft assessment protocal developed as a product of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant awarded to NDNH.

On Friday, Gov. Sisolak signed an Executive Order directing state agencies to develop and implement a robust climate strategy in Nevada. The Nature Conservancy applauds Governor Sisolak and his effort to advance comprehensive climate action in Nevada.

Students, families, staff, and neighbors descended on the Carson Middle School Wetlands Habitat Saturday morning prepared to rake leaves, pull weeds, remove unwanted vegetation, and prepare the habitat for winter.

Heading into the first day of October 2019, events around the capital city include a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a historic talk about Frank Sinatra's gaming license at Lake Tahoe, a "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event at Red's Old 395 Grill, a showing of the film classic "Charade" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

NEW WASHOE CITY — September events at Washoe Lake State Park include an evening hike through the sand dunes, a birdwatching program, a morning walk through the Day Use Area, and a night hike.

Last Saturday morning 15 intrepid Carson City area "Trash Mobbers" came out to clean up the wetlands to protect the birds and wildlife. We met near the Humane Society on Airport and then walked along the Carson Freeway Multi-Use two thirds of mile to access the wetlands area.

Happy Saturday, Carson City! There are a ton of events going on in our beautiful capital city today as we officially head into summer following yesterday's solstice. Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

Eminent scientists Dr. Charles Goldman, Dr. Sudeep Chandra and other panelists will be featured guests at Western Nevada College in Carson City where they will talk about local impacts of droughts, floods, fires and warming temperatures on the regional economy and future generations.

Join in and be a part of the Muscle Powered Trash Mob team this coming Saturday as it cleans up the wetlands area along the Carson City Freeway Multi-Use Path between the end of N. Lompa Lane and Airport Road.

On April 22nd 2019, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada hosted their first clean-up of Fulstone Wetlands as part of the Adopt-A-Trail program.

Around 90 participants picked up 200 pounds of trash! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department wants to extend our thanks for the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

In recognition of American Wetlands Month in May, the Nevada Natural Heritage Program, within the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is providing education on the vital importance of wetlands to Nevada’s ecological, economic, and social health.

Nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of plant and animal species that we know and love, and many more that remain to be discovered. In recognition of this year’s official Earth Day theme, “Protect our Species,” the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR) is helping to educate communities about the many wonders of Nevada’s native species, and strategies underway to help advance biodiversity and foster thriving ecosystems.

Sure it's tax day and all and sure the weather outside is expected to be windy with a chance of showers. But these shouldn't shake your enthusiasm for another awesome day in our great capital city. Janel Johnson, a botanist with the Nevada Natural Heritage program, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Having earned a bachelors in botany at Oregon State and a Masters in rangeland ecology from Montana State, Janel began her labor of love 15 years ago at the Natural Heritage program of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The Carson City chapter of Ducks Unlimited is hosting its annual banquet April 6 at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. The banquet will feature high-quality firearms and art work, collector’s knife sets, carved decoys, and K2 coolers. The event is family friendly with special youth activities and drawings.
