We’ve got one heck of a weekend on its way, and it’s starting right now. Start off with a trip to the Governor’s Mansion with something non-perishable for the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive: you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your vehicle. Break a leg to Wild Horse Children’s Theater and to the Proscenium Players. Both troupes begin the run of their winter plays tonight at the Brewery Arts Center. It’s a Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Fuji Park. You’ll find a plethora of vendors, crafters, and artisans waiting to help make your holiday shopping hassle-free.

Black Friday, small business Saturday, cyber Monday: I didn’t name these, but I can truly get behind Day of Giving Tuesday. Carson City is home to several great charities and non-profits that could use your financial love. Throw a few dollars at your favorite one if you’re able. It’s not warm outside, but a brisk hike will warm you up. Muscle Powered shows off one of Carson City’s great trails every Tuesday afternoon. If you’d rather exercise your brain, DJ Trivia at the Fox Brewpub or the Geeks who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras are a great mix of friends and friendly competition.

Tonight, the over 21 crowd gets to enjoy a costume contest at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget, with many more parties on the way.

Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

Calling all Geeks. After a long hiatus, the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz has returned to Carson City, and is setting up shop inside Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint on Tuesday nights. Grab your smartest friends for a fun night of yummy drinks, great food, and nerdy competition. It's National Register to Vote Day - Carson residents can go to the County Clerk's office in the Courthouse. While you're there, head to the CCAI Gallery on the second floor to catch the last few days of the 'Industrial Art: Sports Edition' exhibit.

Two decades is a long time to spend collecting used computers and components that nobody wants anymore. A lot of inventory can be amassed in that span.

The Carson City Fair gathers steam today: they’ll be setting up the carnival, judging the items in the exhibit hall, and the 4-H kids are showing off what their dogs can do. It’s a play-doh afternoon at the Carson City Library, in addition to their weekly Pajama Story time on Tuesday evenings. The Carson Nugget is hosting a job fair to fill a plethora of positions in their restaurants and on the casino floor.

What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor resisting a public officer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

As the week rolls along, it’s easy to get excited about the weekend. Genoa’s Cowboy Festival takes over the tiny town with music, poetry, artisans, food, and fun and the Comstock hills will roar to life with motorbikes during the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. While you’re waiting, enjoy a jaunt with Muscle Powered along the Carson River or take an Easy Walk to the Pioneer Cemetery. Tonight, songstress Canyon White will take the stage at Living the Good Life.

Carson City School District, in partnership with McKinstry, a national leader in designing, constructing, operating, and managing high-performance buildings, has begun a series of building modernizations that will save the district $357,000 annually through reduced utility and operational costs.

The Littlest Things in Carson City is more than a petting zoo, it’s a refuge. You’ll find ponies, goats, puppies, ducks, and more at this great non-profit rescue and they are always looking for animal-loving volunteers. Stop by their open house/volunteer orientation this afternoon to check it out. It’s Tartan Day at the Legislature, so don’t be alarmed if you see a few kilts around town. Karaoke at Jimmy G’s, live music at Glen Eagles and Living the Good Life, and Bike Night at Battle Born Harley are just a sample of tonight’s offerings. It seems like overnight the crabapples have exploded into bloom. Take advantage of a beautiful day by joining one of the walks organized every Tuesday. An easy walk with Parks and Rec will take you along a portion of the Mexican Ditch Trail today. The Muscle Powered walk in early evening is more strenuous. Fathers will want to get moving if they plan on taking their daughter to the Carson High Father Daughter Dance this Friday. What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. Today we say farewell to February. I’m chomping at the bit for spring and Mardi Gras means it’s just around the corner. The Sierra Nevada Forums return to the Brewery Arts Center with a presentation on civility in a time of political differences. The Carson City Photography Club is welcoming new members: every month you’ll find a different assignment. Those in the nursing field will want to attend the RN Job Fair at Carson Tahoe Hospital for new opportunities.

Construction has begun on a 750 foot indoor go-cart track planned at 3777 North Carson Street in Carson City, chief architect Ken Rose said Friday.

With localized drainage flooding happening in many areas around the capital city region today, the Carson River near Carson City is rising and expected to reach peak flood stage Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

With heavy rain arriving and local flooding looking likely, Carson City Public Works crews were out in full force Sunday morning clearing streets of debris and slushy snow piling around drainages.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has declared a state of emergency due to the severe weather system developing in Northern Nevada and the consequent danger to life and damage to property, said Carson City Deputy Emergency Manager Stacey Belt.
