All-new Carson Raceway to celebrate grand opening Friday
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
The all-new Carson Raceway is set to celebrate its grand opening in Carson City this Friday from noon to 10 p.m.
Featuring state-of-the-art all electric-powered vehicles and 750 feet of track, Carson Raceway is the capital city's first indoor go-cart race track facility.
The cars, resembling miniature European Le Mans race cars and powered by industrial-grade lithium batteries, streak over a 16-foot wide track with a dozen curves at up to 45 miles per hour.
Drivers are required to wear protective gear, including racing helmets, and participate in pre-driving safety instruction before entering the pit area and climbing behind the wheel of the little electric European whizzers.
Each race on the track lasts 16 minutes, accommodating up to eight racers at a time.
The cost for each race is $20 per person, or $35 for two people. Three people cost $50 and a group of five people costs $75 for each 16-minute race.
Drivers have been trying out the new indoor track since its soft opening last Wednesday, staff said.
Carson Raceway occupies about 35,000 square feet of warehouse space located at 3777 North Carson Street next to Ben's Fine Wines and Liquor.
The track is open from noon to 10 p.m. weekdays and noon to 11 p.m. on weekends.
