The long weekend continues, along with great shopping, friends, family, and fun. It’s Small Business Saturday, which is a great time to explore our downtown shops, and the local businesses throughout town. Don’t miss the Christmas Kick-off at Evergreen Gene’s, complete with a visit from Santa. Carson Valley Inn hosts its annual Kandy Kane Holiday Craft Fair. You will also find great Nevada items in our Museum Gift Shops and at the Chamber of Commerce’s Artisan Gallery.

Today is a day for leftovers and crazy shopping. If your family is in town, take them down to opening day at the Arlington Square Ice Rink. The Railroad Museum of Northern Nevada has rides on the McKeen Motor Car special for this weekend. Pinkerton Ballet begins its annual run of the Nutcracker at the Bob Boldrick Theater tonight. Get inspired for your own decorations at Candy Cane Lane: Carson Valley Inn’s drive-thru light show. Happy birthday to the Blue Bull; beer and cocktail specials start at noon.

Local Walmart Stores Pull Toys for Tots Donation Boxes

The Marine Corps League, organizing the annual 'Toys for Tots' toy drive for families in need in the Northern Nevada region says local Walmart stores have removed donation boxes from area locations.

The Carson City store on Market Street and the store in Gardnerville on Grant Avenue, have allowed the Carson City Toys for Tots group to place donation boxes at their stores. The group says managers at the Topsy Lane location told them they were instructed by Walmart's corporate office not to allow the donation bins because Walmart as a corporation was only allowing donations to be made to the Children's Miracle Network.

Toys For Tots will be kicking off the 2015 campaign at the local Walmart stores in Carson City on Market Street and Douglas County on Grant Street in Gardnerville this Black Friday and Saturday (November 27th and 28th) for local children. The Marines of the Bridgeport Warfare Training Facility will be on hand once again this year to assist with donations.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a theft at the Walmart on Topsy Lane south of Carson City.

Holiday Crawl to benefit Holiday with a Hero

The Holiday with a Hero committee is sponsoring a Holiday Crawl — a festive pub crawl through downtown bars — to raise money for the annual shopping spree for children who classify as homeless in Carson City.

“Because of funding we’ve had to cut back on the number of kids we’ve served in the past few years,” said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales, who serves on the committee.

Three jailed in Walmart theft where knife was brandished

Three suspects are in custody after allegedly stealing merchandise Thursday from a Gardnerville Walmart, with one of the suspects allegedly brandishing a knife after being confronted by store security, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Carson City detectives seek identity of man wanted in vehicle burglary, credit card fraud

Carson City sheriff's detectives are looking for a man suspected of burglarizing a vehicle at Fuji Park in September and using the victim's credit card.

A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:38 a.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on a misdemeanor charge, driving under the influence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

On August 8, 2015, the victim was advised by her credit card company that some unusual activity was seen on her account. After checking into the charges the victim realized they were missing this credit card.

This last weekend of August is filled with ways to celebrate your community. Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

Marine Corps League of Carson City outreach event to help family of Deputy Howell

This weekend the Marine Corps League of Carson City will hold its annual outreach event with half of the donations to go to a fund establish for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy and former U.S. Marine Carl Howell.

This weekend the Marine Corps League of Carson City Silver State Detachment 630 will hold an annual outreach event at the Walmart store on Retail Drive on Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This outreach is for charity donations to the good of our community which includes Carson City, Dayton, Virginia City, Minden and Gardnerville.

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

Northern Nevada Dream Center annual toiletries drives helps those in need

The Northern Nevada Dream Center's toiletries bins were over half full after an hour of collecting donations in front of the Carson City area Walmarts on Saturday. Walmart shoppers and community members were eager to donate after hearing about the cause.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center is a group of volunteers with a vision to bring hope and relief to residencts in local communities. The organization aims to meet basic needs of families and individuals by providing assistance.
