Good morning Carson Now readers, here are your election updates for the 2020 General Election which is currently in its early voting period. There have been huge increases in overall voters during this election, which means more and more citizens are taking part in the elections process.

Happy Friday Carson City! Let’s take a look at how early voting is going in the Silver State.

This information is up to date as of 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.

The nation is on track for a record-breaking voter turnout, and Nevada is following suit. During the 2016 election, Week 1 of Early Voting returned 8,527 ballots in Carson City, 6,972 in Lyon County, and 7,320 in Douglas County.

In addition to mailing ballots through the U.S. Postal Service, Carson City voters can submit mail ballots in three ways:

1. Drive-up drop box at the east parking lot of Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road (look for the blue tent). 2. Drop box by the east exit of the Carson City Community Center 851 E. William St. (look for the blue tent). 3. At the counter of the Carson City Clerk's office, 885 E. Musser St., Suite 1025.

President Donald Trump predicted that Nevada’s battered tourism industry would “come roaring back” under his leadership, warning that the lights of Las Vegas and Reno would be extinguished under a Joe Biden presidency and that Carson City, where he rallied supporters Sunday evening, would turn into a ghost town.

Carson City voters were met with extremely long lines Saturday during the first day of Early Voting.

This year there is only one poll site for in person voting, which is being held at the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

Early voting in Carson City begins tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 17 and will continue through Oct. 30.

UPDATE: President Donald J. Trump will make a campaign stop in Carson City on Sunday afternoon. He will appear at Carson City Airport's Cactus Air Force, 2600 E College Pkwy at 4 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m. Go here for ticket information.

This Saturday I will drive a good friend with 93 years of knowledge to our voting place where we will cancel each other out. It's the American way. Voting is the most American thing we do. My mother and father took great delight in canceling each other every four years without damaging their sweet relationship in the least.

A federal district court judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump’s campaign seeking to block Nevada’s expanded mail-in voting laws for the 2020 election over a lack of standing.

Sondra Cosgrove, President of the League of Women Voters of Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. Her presentation, to be teleconferenced via Zoom from Las Vegas, will spotlight the five questions on the November ballot in terms of their history and substance as well as the reasoning behind the League's positions for or against passage.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital Branch will present a series of virtual election forums on October 9, 12, 13, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night.

Mailers recently sent by the U.S Postal Service (USPS) make two incorrect recommendations to Nevada voters, including direction to request a mail-in ballot at least 15 days before Election Day and to add a postage stamp.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to sponsor the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Completed essays are due to the Carson City School District at 1402 West King Street no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

President Donald Trump sought to undermine confidence in the electoral process in Nevada during a rally in Minden Saturday evening, falsely telling a packed crowd of supporters that Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak controls millions of votes, that mail-in ballots can be accepted without signatures and that Republicans likely wouldn’t be sent mail-in ballots but dogs and dead people would.

The upcoming 2020 General Election will be a first in the country's history, as it will be a primarily mail-in only election. There has been many sources of misinformation regarding how the election will work, and the Nevada Secretary of State has provided a Myths and Facts sheet to help dispel some of the rumors.

Democrats spirited away a key U.S. Senate seat, took control of the governor’s mansion for the first time in two decades and secured a veto-proof majority in one chamber of the Legislature while retaining a majority in the other.
