Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835. Mark Twain was born in Carson City, Nevada on February 3, 1863.

Though most know this is one and the same person, the name Mark Twain and his writings, tall tales and witticisms are known throughout the world while Samuel Clemens has been reduced to a trivia question.

Nevada authors Sandie La Nae and Special Works Historian Arline La Ferry teamed up to present their “WEIRD Carson City” volume on Saturday at Morley’s Books.

Plus there's art showings, hands-on science activities in Silver City, an evening archery shoot, a viewing of the 1953 film "From Here to Eternity" at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club and more. Calling all teens: Bring your space-related science and pop culture knowledge to the Carson City Library on July 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. We'll have trivia, snacks and lots of fun! Assemble your team or come Solo. The Carson City Library is located at 900 North Roop Street.

Carson City Republican Women's upcoming event will be held this Saturday, May 18 in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion. The theme for this event is "Proud to be an American" honoring every day patriots. Patriotic dress is encouraged but not mandatory.

Coming Tuesday, May 7 our first in a series of “How To” talks, will be 12 steps to making a short film, as well as competition and challenge basics.

New this year, Wired Wednesday Digital Artists will present a brief film-making discussion prior to our films, beginning at 6:00p. This month's topic - Lighting for dark films.

"Winterflix," a play on the popular Netflix streaming service, was the theme this year at the 2019 Winterfest week at CHS with dress-up days and night-time activities all week long. Some of the events included the Netflix show, "Stranger Things," a Twins Day, "Riverdale," "The Office," and even the ever popular once-a-month Dress for Success competition.

CHS hosted the Northern Nevada Forensic League tournament last weekend.
