The Nevada Talk Network brings a huge Christmas Wish to the state beginning at noon Christmas Eve until 8 p.m. Christmas night.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. Plus, the Carson City School Orchestra Program will hold its annual Holiday Concert at the community center, The Peanuts Gang Trio will hold a free holiday concert at Sassafras, and more.

Over the next two weeks, the Nevada Department of Transportation will activate new flashing yield signs on certain Interstate 580 Carson City Freeway on-ramps. The new yield signs located at the base of both northbound and southbound I-580 on-ramps from College Parkway and U.S. 50, East William Street will feature flashing yellow beacon lights at the top.

Unsettled weather is ahead for the Carson City region over the next few days beginning with a weak and warm storm moving into the area, which accounts for the gusty conditions Thursday morning. This will be followed by another system Friday into Saturday, bringing some valley rain that may turn to light snow showers later this weekend.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. CARSON CITY — If Homer wrote the Odyssey today, he might very well title it, The Love Story. The ancient Greek epic poem that chronicles Odysseus’ ten-year journey back from the Trojan War to the Island of Ithaca and his beloved wife and son is, among other things, a love story. And in many ways literally and figuratively parallels the odyssey Taylor Love has been on the past few years.

The U.S. Mint Building in Carson City is one of the city’s most recognizable, enduring and beloved structures. Those adjectives likely would not apply to Alfred B. Mullett, the man who designed the building, now home to the Nevada State Museum, 150 years ago — especially “beloved.”

With a weekend of Christmas holiday events across the Carson City region, it looks like Mother Nature will be active with valley rain beginning late Friday and feet of snow in the Sierra through Sunday.

With the holiday season here the Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community of some precautions that will reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime. While many of us are shopping for the best deal on Christmas presents, criminals are looking for an opportunity to take advantage of us while we are distracted. Many of the tips provided involve common sense and can be practiced year round.

Two storms systems, one Wednesday and the other to arrive late Friday, are forecast to bring valley rain and Sierra snow to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, along with California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy and the USDA Forest Service may continue prescribed fire operations over the next several weeks in the Tahoe Basin, weather, conditions and staffing permitted.

The storm appears to be subsiding, snow plows will continue to maintain the Carson City area streets throughout the day. Please drive slow and leave extra time for travel. If traveling please stay back at least 100 feet and avoid passing the plow. Be aware of the plow wing as it discharges heavy amounts of snow.

A winter storm continues to bring a mixture of rain and heavy wet snow to the valley floor Monday morning, making for school and commute delays around the Carson City region.

With the arrival of Thanksgiving, forecasters say periods of snow and hazardous travel conditions will continue through the holiday weekend and into Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to call for another round of winter storm watches and travel advisories.

The first significant snow around Carson City on Wednesday allowed the creation of a path to feed the birds.

The first big snow storm of the winter season arrived overnight and into Wednesday morning bringing snow to the valley floor and Sierra, causing travel headaches for many Thanksgiving holiday motorists with any number of accidents, fender benders and spinouts.

With the window for safe motor travel over the Sierra closing, the National Weather Service says travelers may experience headaches on their return home from the Thanksgiving holiday as another winter storm is brewing and likely to arrive by late Saturday into Sunday.

RENO — Air travel during the busy Thanksgiving holiday will hit a high in 2019 with Reno-Tahoe International Airport anticipating more passengers departing earlier this year, largely due to the incoming winter storms arriving in the region.

A winter storm expected to bring feet of snow to the Sierra and anywhere from 1 to 6 inches to the valley floors during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period is headed our way, with snow expected to arrive late Tuesday afternoon and last through through Thanksgiving, according to the National Weather Service.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday for misdemeanor violation of a protection order.
According to an arrest report, deputies responded late Sunday evening to a West Nye Lane apartment for a report of a man and woman arguing, yelling and screaming and a woman crying.

The first significant snow-driven storms of the season remain on track to impact western Nevada and Sierra midday Tuesday through Wednesday, coinciding with one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Motorists are advised that if they can do it, they should finish travel over the Sierra by Tuesday morning to avoid long delays and highway travel headaches.

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning for a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation after his girlfriend sent a family member text messages that said “help me” and “call the police,” a sheriff's deputy report states.
