The Brewery Arts Center presents Grammy winners Flor De Toloache this Saturday, August 3 as part of the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series on The Change Companies stage! With only 4 concerts left in the season, grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Carson City and Brewery Arts Center’s newest community treasure.

The historic Comstock town of Silver City, Nev. will host another free, family-friendly public event on Saturday August 3. Kantu Inka will perform on the town’s outdoor stage, the Silver Pavilion, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Kantu Inka is a duo including Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo. They bring Peruvian culture alive with dance and traditional instruments such as zampoñas, quenas, charangos, bombos, chacchas, and cajón.

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. Gardnerville, Nevada’s only vintage pop-up shop for their 5th Annual Artisans & Antiques Festival. This year’s outdoor festival is Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1235 Eddy Street in the heart of the Main Street Gardnerville District. The event includes 55+ local vendors featuring a variety of handmade items, vintage furniture and decor. The rodeo returns to Virginia City Aug. 24-25 bringing with it a full force of western and cultural heritage starting off with a longhorn cattle drive right down the center of town. The 4th annual Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro features a mutton bustin’ tournament, classic bull fighting, traditional rodeo events and a celebration of Hispanic heritage.

The University of Nevada has announced that students who were set to be put up in the Argenta Dormitory at the Reno campus will now be relocated to a tower at Circus Circus following the July 5 explosion that destroyed a good amount of the building and left a handful of students with minor injuries.

In addition, the resident dining facility on the first floor of Argenta, in which all dormitory students with paid meal plans eat during the year for most meals, was also damaged and will remain closed for the next academic year.

Northern Nevada Development Authority on Friday announced its economic development service area has been expanded to include Mineral County. The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development \has designated NNDA as the regional development authority (RDA) for the county, effective July 1, 2019. Mineral County joins Nevada’s Sierra Region that also includes Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County.

Jim Barcellos of University Nevada Cooperative Extension leads his popular interactive science activity on Tuesday, July 9 from 10 to noon at the Silver City School House, 385 High Street. The activity is free and all children ages 8-12, with their parents, are invited to attend.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

As we go forward and move ahead into Tuesday, July 2, 2019 we're looking at another sunny day, all the better as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day. Are you ready for July 4 fireworks at Mills Park? As a Tuesday warmup, get the heart pumping during Muscle Powered's three fitness outings. Plus there's art showings, hands-on science activities in Silver City, an evening archery shoot, a viewing of the 1953 film "From Here to Eternity" at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club and more. The Nevada Department of Transportation, Tahoe Transportation District and partners opened the new Tahoe East Shore Trail in Incline Village on Friday, June 28 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Silver City, Nevada - Kids ages 8-12 and their parents can don goggles and learn why there's an endothermic reaction between vinegar and baking soda in a bubbling and fun activity on July 2 in Silver City. Participants will use thermometers and observe whether heat is created or extinguished. The experiment will also help them learn about Celsius and Fahrenheit.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — A number of different groups sponsor an annual summer series of public events in historic Silver City. This summer, events include a free family-friendly concert by Kantu Inka, visits from award-winning visiting artists and writers, kids science and engineering activities, plus a floral design class, a coding workshop, lectures and more for adults and teens.

Silver Springs, Nev. – Celebrate Independence Day the old fashioned way with traditional games, homemade toys and crafts, and sweet treats from the 1800s. Activities for all ages will include: sack races, three-legged races, quoits (ring toss), bean bag toss, baseball, watermelon seed spitting contest, and hand-cranked ice cream. Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch and plan to spend the afternoon enjoying the park.

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.

Heading into Tuesday, June 18, 2019 we're looking at continued warming around the region with a daytime high around 91. Temperatures are expected to actually lower toward the end of the week.
