Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen coming to Harveys at Lake Tahoe

Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen is heading to Lake Tahoe. The celebrated star chef and television personality will be opening the third restaurant in his chain inside the historic Sage Room at Harveys Lake Tahoe. It is planned to debut in late 2019.

Rolling Stones tribute, outdoor movies, parade and more: Carson City region readies for Labor Day weekend

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Laugh out loud as comedy favorite Bob Zany presents "Carson City Tonight Where You Are The Star!" at the end of this month, August 30-31, at the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget.

Bob is a stand up comedian well known for appearing in films such as "Joe Dirt" and "The Informant." Bob was also on the "Friends of the Bob and Tom Show" on Comedy Central.

Tickets are only $15 and doors open at 7:15 p.m. The Carson Nugget is located at 507 North Carson Street, Carson City.

Carson Valley comedian Kat Simmons will offer her stand up comedy workshop only once this year. The six-week workshop will be held on Monday nights, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 through Nov. 11, 2019, at the COD Casino in Minden.

For The Books: End of Summer Learning Challenge party celebrated at Carson City Library

It was gathering for the books and the sky. The Carson City Library concluded its Summer Learning Challenge on Saturday by throwing a party. The get-together celebrated youth participating in library activities that focused on space and science themes throughout summer.

Two artists have been selected to design and install murals on a two-sided wall near Empire Elementary School on La Loma Drive, under the theme “Reach for the Stars.”

The winning artists are Bill Louis and Bryce Chisholm, both from the Reno/Sparks area.

King Arthur, 'Superhuman' presentations featured in Carson City at WNC observatory

A night of fact or fiction is coming to Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Mike Thomas will provide his take on the legitimacy of the “Legend of King Arthur” on Friday, Aug. 2 at the observatory.

Speaking of “Superhumans,” a night later on Saturday, Aug. 3, Thomas will kick off the observatory’s star party with a slide show presentation of a variety of real people who have abilities who can only be described as “super.”

Events around the Carson City area for Tuesday, July 30

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. Events around Carson City for Monday, July 29

UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Parking at the Observatory can be found at 2699 Vanpatten Ave, Carson City. Please call (775) 281-7711 with any questions. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. On tap around Carson City are athletic, art and speaking events, a life guard camp, a computer coding camp, line dancing lessons and more. Enjoy.

When I was about 10 years old, I spent the Fourth of July holiday at the beach with family.

As usual, Mom and Dad piled their four children into the cab-over camper and drove south — all night — to Morro Bay, Calif., where my grandparents lived.
