As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day beginning Jan. 4 or taken to one of the drop-off locations.

During the 2014/2015 school year, Food For Thought’s Backpack Program distributed 13,509 bags of food that contained 54,036 meals to food insecure elementary, middle and high school children in Carson City. In the summer of 2015, the program provided free lunches to children at two locations within Carson City. The innovative 2015 Summer Program served over 4,500 meals.

Meet at 9:00 am at the Morgan Mill parking lot for the full hike, about 12.75 miles roundtrip. For those who wish to do a partial hike, you can meet us at Hidden Meadows Trailhead parking area at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road, or the entrance to Saddle Ranch on Carson River Road, or at the barn o Silver Saddle Ranch.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 10/31/2015 - 9:48amIt was a run and walk through downtown Carson City that can only be done the Silver State way here on this Nevada Day. The all-ages Nevada Day Classic Run and Walk is a way to get the blood pumping before the parade starts.
The event, organized by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club and its members in cooperation with many sponsors, has supported many community organizations over the years. This year’s event benefits Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Day of the Dead is a multicultural celebration of life through death. In this wholesome family holiday, participants learn to deal with death in a healthy way by celebrating the lives of dear ones that has passed away. (or sponsor yourself). Strut your laps, collect the donations and we will send them to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.
Dress crazy dress pink, this is think pink month for breast cancer awareness. Event will go from 11am to 3pm. Walk any time during that time frame. The Humane Society will be here with pet adoptions. CASI will be here seeking donations for the animal shelter.
2016 Amgen Tour of California returns to Lake Tahoe for men, women stage races
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/22/2015 - 1:06pmAmgen Tour of California, presented by AEG, announced Thursday that professional cyclists return to Lake Tahoe for the men’s Stage 5 finish, as well as the women’s Stage 1 start on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The men will take off in Lodi, Calif. and finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. The women will also start/finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort on May 19.

Bill Heitman and Ila Acchtabowski from Junior Achievement have been instrumental in making this happen.The course will be taught by professionals from Sierra Financial Advisors Sally Kaplan and Katie Coombs. Junior Achievement is a non-profit youth organization founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Theodore Vail, and Winthrop M. Crane.
Bull riding Saturday to raise money for family of slain deputy Carl Howell

“I think it’s the right thing for us to do as people,” said Souza, who is working in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association. “Police officers do a thankless job. But they’re always there when you need them, aren’t they? I think it’s important we do this.”
Donors sought for Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner fundraiser for Greenhouse Project

A major donor, (composed of one donor or many) for the amount of $5,000 is still needed. The $5,000 match is collected through donations both large and small, by dinner patrons.

Ever since President Bill Clinton held the first meeting in South Lake Tahoe in 1997, the annual focus of the Lake Tahoe Summit is to protect what Mark Twain called "the fairest picture the whole world affords."
