Private property rights battle rages in mining debate
Submitted by editor on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 3:19pmHere's a follow-up to the Silver City mining story, this time by political reporter Anjeanette Damon of the Las Vegas Sun as to what happened Monday among lawmakers taking up the eminent domain mining issue. According to one mining lobbyist, if you support private property rights over mining in Nevada, you're an eco-terrorist. Here's the story.
Eminent domain amendment on mining goes before legislative committee today
Submitted by editor on Mon, 02/14/2011 - 2:47amA number of Silver City residents will go before lawmakers today to show their support of a proposed amendment to Nevada's eminent domain law that would remove the ability of a private person or business to exercise the law for the purposes of mining.
The current law on eminent domain (Chapter 37 of the Nevada Revised Statues) allows private individuals to take private land from property owners without their consent, for the purposes of mining. Testimony on this bill will be heard by the Judiciary Committee of the Nevada State Legislature today at 9 a.m. in room 2149.
Dayton yard sale for Food Pantry raises $1,400

The yard sale to benefit the Dayton Food Pantry raised over $1400! This will go a long way toward providing nutritious foods to families in the Dayton Valley.
Thank you to all those who helped feed their neighbors by donating items for sale and/or braving the stormy weather to shop at the sale.
The Dayton Food Pantry is run entirely by volunteers, and made possible because every part of the community- clubs, nonprofits, schools, county services, businesses, faith groups, etc - works together to stop hunger.
Flu shots offered at Dayton Food Pantry
Submitted by editor on Tue, 09/28/2010 - 4:05amFlu shots for anyone over 6 months of age, and commodities food distribution for those in need from Dayton, Silver City and Stagecoach takes place at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way and Highway 50 in Dayton on Oct. 21, between noon and 5 p.m.
Health and Human Services recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. On Oct. 21 only, between noon and 5pm, Carson Health nurses will be able to provide the following types of flu shots at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way:
Silver City man died of injuries resulting from Mound House accident on Highway 50
Submitted by editor on Thu, 08/19/2010 - 1:51pmThe Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the man who died in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday on Highway 50 in Mound House.
Thomas G. Froysa, 66, of Silver City, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the automobile accident, according to the coroner's office of the Washoe County Medical Examiner, who performed an autopsy this morning.
