Second Wind Thrift Store Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Second Wind Thrift Store is celebrating their grand re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and special comments from Mayor Bob Crowell on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. Second Wind Thrift Store is located near the Carson City Senior Center, 901 Beverly Drive, Carson City.

The first 100 customers will receive free hot dogs, cookies and bottled waters. All customers will receive 50 percent off their purchases of every item in the store, excluding books.

Carson City Symphony 'Family Matters' Concert Featuring Violinist Gregory Maytan this Sunday

Celebrating its 35th season, the Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, presents a “Family Matters” concert on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. Featured guest soloist, violinist Gregory Maytan, will perform the United States premiere of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, written in 1875 by Swedish composer, Amanda Maier.

Teenagers aren't joining the workforce, and Carson City pool programs are suffering

Summer is a time for ice cream, bike rides, carnivals, and of course, swimming. However, there is a shortage of lifeguards nationwide so extreme that pool programs are in jeopardy of shutting down.

“We are a part of the aquatic community that is suffering right now,” said Mike Freeman, Recreation Program Manager at the Carson City Aquatics Center.

Kiwanis of Carson City hosts pasta feed Saturday to benefit Meals on Wheels

The Kiwanis Club of Carson City is hosting its annual Pasta Feed to benefit Meals on Wheels Carson City this Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Tickets are $6, and include pasta, garlic bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Kids under 5 eat free.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”
