Reno woman found safe, Petaluma woman remains missing after attending South Lake Tahoe party

UPDATE: 8:27 PM: The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the 21-year-old Reno woman reported missing since early New Year's day, Chantel Good, has been found unhurt. Still missing is a 19-year-old Petaluma woman, Alyssa Marie Byrne.

UPDATE 7:35PM: Reno Channel 2 KTVN reports that a 21-year-old Reno woman is missing as well as a 19-year-old Petaluma woman.

Chantel Good is described as 5 foot 4 inches and was last seen wearing brown boots, a flower-printed blue dress, a creme/beige pullover sweater, and a pink Aztec-design sweater. She was holding a brown satchel.

Plane missing over Yosemite National Park

A plane flying from Santa Barbara to Mammoth Lakes has gone missing over Yosemite National Park, park spokeswoman Kari Cobb said.
The single-engine plane's pilot, Nicol Wilson, a Santa Barbara County resident in his mid-60s, was reported missing by his family Monday night. He was the only person aboard the plane.

Carson City firefighters help children in need

Some Carson City firefighters traded in their fireman hats for Santa caps today to help out area children in need. The Carson City Firefighters Association went on a shopping spree at Walmart to buy toys for the Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program.

Increasing the Joy is making the holiday season more joyful by distributing gifts to these children, who may not have a traditional Christmas like many of us. Last year Increasing the Joy gave out 500 gifts and for 2012 we've set our goals even higher at 700 gifts. We believe that every child deserves joy.

Santa teams up with Nevada State Railroad Museum for holiday rides

Santa Claus will make an express run on the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s steam train pulled by V&T Railway locomotive No. 25 for one last weekend. The museum’s Santa Train departs Carson City’s Wabuska Depot at the corner of Fairview Drive and U.S. 395 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16.
Trains run continuously throughout the day. Each Santa Train trip leaves the depot as soon as Santa and passengers have boarded.

Carson City shows its holiday best at Snowflake Festival of Lights

Being the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.

Holiday cheer at two-day Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights

Carson City's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights has become so well received over the years that the 2012 festival will now run for two days. The enhanced event is tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ice skating continues until 10 p.m.

Tonight's night's festivities begin on the capitol grounds with the state tree, a bristlecone pine, and downtown Carson City being lit along with a procession including Santa, Mrs. Claus and the 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble.

Santa, Holiday Craft Sale and Musical Theater at The Children's Museum

More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

It might have been raining across much of Northern California, but last week’s storm brought snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts – more than 3.5 feet of the white stuff, making for a great ski weekend.

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”

Polar Express tickets aboard Carson City V&T have sold out; two options available for train enthusiasts

The 2012 Polar Express train aboard the historic V&T Railway in Carson City has sold all of its tickets, officials said. The all-ages train ride is set for 15 different dates, Nov. 23 through Dec. 23. The V&T officially sold all 10,794 of its tickets as of Thursday, said Candy Duncan, executive director of the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
