Thanks to big hearts and the spirit of giving, the fifth annual Cookies with Santa, a benefit for Ron Wood Family Resource Center’s holiday fund, takes place Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Café at Adele’s.
Children of all ages are invited to enjoy complimentary hot cider, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, visit with and have their picture taken with Santa, while helping provide Christmas for children in need.

Santa brought a rainbow with him, when he visited the Evergreen Gene's "Christmas Kickoff" event on Saturday, November 29. Thank you Santa for the magnificent colors...it is the best gift ever!

Carson High School seniors recently volunteered for the 2014 General elections in Carson City. Emely Lopez, Claudia Vazquez, Kimberly Torres, Karina Munoz, Maria Pacheco, Deanna Earwicker, and Amber Seifert spent the day at the polls welcoming and assisting voters. Each year, CHS government teachers work in conjunction with the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s office to provide student volunteers for the elections. We’d like to wish out-going Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover the best of luck in his retirement and we look forward to continuing our relationship with that office as Ms.

Bring your pets to Benson's Feed and Tack at 2750 Highway 50 East for pictures with Santa. The event is Saturday Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 per picture.

All dogs must be on leash and cats in a carrier. Share the holiday spirit with the staff at Benson's and CASI volunteers while helping to build a new animal shelter. If you need more information call CASI at 671-2413.

Get in the holiday spirit with the Reno Philharmonic’s classic holiday celebration, Spirit of the Season, Dec. 6 and 7 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. An annual audience favorite for the whole family, Spirit of the Season features the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, northern Nevada’s largest performing arts organization, and special guests to create a variety show-style concert like no other.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights will officially kick off Friday evening, Dec. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the steps of the State Capitol in Carson City.

“Tis the Season” again already! For the 16th Year Friends To All volunteers will dress up in Santa Suits and Helper costumes to bring joy and cheer to senior citizens throughout Carson City.

On Saturday, Dec. 13 these festive groups will log between 150 and 200 stops as they make their rounds visiting and delivering gifts. This year we give special appreciation and honor to the man who inspired our program, Raymond Smith, who passed away in September. Only 660 tickets remain for the family favorite trip to the North Pole aboard the 2014 Polar Express train, Nov. 20 to Dec. 22, 2014. Select coach seats aboard the all-ages holiday train into a winter wonderland and the world of imagination.

Because of the demand, more trips and passenger cars were added to the month-long event, which has consistently sold out since debuting four years ago and is expected to draw record numbers again this holiday season. Last year more than 16,000 passengers rode the train.

The Annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and Official Tree Lighting tonight, Friday, Dec. 5. is more than just flipping on the holiday lights in downtown Carson City; Santa, carolers, soup, hot chocolate, and ice skating all play a part in the fun.

Carson High School will be hosting its annual Craft Fair this weekend, Friday, Nov. 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for children and K-12 students. For adults admission Friday is $2 and allows re-entry on Saturday; Saturday's admission is $1.50, with a discount if you bring something non-perishable for their food drive.

Hello fellow anglers. Now that our evening daylight is getting shorter, take advantage of as much fishing time you can get. On the bright side, on Dec. 22, the days will start getting longer by 1 minute each day. Also remember that you have until Saturday, Nov. 15, to get in your last bit of fishing on the California rivers and streams as the season will come to a close.

There will be some areas on the Carson River and the American River that is open to fishing all year long with restrictions of zero limit and a barbless hook. Check your regulations for these areas.

The third annual Breakfast with Santa benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada (RMHC® Northern Nevada), a non-profit that houses families whose children are receiving medical treatment in local hospitals.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening his mother with a machete and blow torch, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Nathan Scott Chavez was arrested at 9:21 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Edmonds after attempting to flee officers. He is being held on $50,412 bail.
