Carson High Safe Grad volunteers recognized

Carson High Safe Grad Boosters would like to thank the following people for their help in making the 2016 Safe and Sober graduation party one of the best we have had. We could not have done it without their support. Thank you for your generosity!

Senator Square: Carson High School prepares for 2016 graduation

Graduation for the class of 2016 is Saturday, June 4, and the ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on the Carson High School football field in Carson City.

One last photo opportunity will happen the morning of graduation. This is the photo of everyone together wearing caps and gowns. The 2016 senior class photo will be taken in the gym, so all seniors must arrive at the school, and meet in the gym by 8:45 a.m.

Carson High Safe Grad Thank You to Sponsors

See Carson High School's 2016 Safe and Sober Graduation Party sponsors above. Thank you to sponsors 2016!

Senator Square: Carson High School 2016 Carneta yearbook available Monday

The excitement is intense and contagious at Carson High School as students strive to make sure they get a copy of this year’s award-winning Carneta yearbook, volume number 94.

A mere seven days of school are all that remain and students are focused on the conclusion of the 2015-2016 school year at Carson High. Everyone is wearing a smile even though more final exams are still to come.

Senator Square: Enjoy an evening with CHS Orchestra, Concert Band and Theatre Arts

As the weather moves from a beautiful spring to a hot summer, staying at home is simply out of the question, especially with two free performances of music and drama aimed at the community of Carson City. The Carson High School Orchestra and Concert Band will deliver “A Night with the Classics” at their annual spring concert on May 18, and CHS Theatre Arts presents The Taming of the Shrew (in the old west) on May 26.

Senator Square: Excitement grows as Carson High celebrates last month of school

The school year is winding down, which usually means the activities and excitement around Carson High amp up in direct proportion. There is also much nailbiting and desperate prayers as freshmen and sophomores take their End of Course exams, juniors and seniors finish taking their AP exams, and finals approach for all students.

Senator Square: Foreign Affairs: Making a Home Away From Home

(Editor’s Note: The following story will appear in the spring edition of The Senator News, CHS’s newspaper. The story was written by staff writer Dominick DeLise, a sophomore at CHS.)

This August, two 2016 CHS graduates, and a student who finished her sophomore year, will begin another year of high school in a new country, learning a new language, and living with a different family.

Seniors MacKenzie Gilliam and Delaney Fine, and sophomore Alexa Conrad, were chosen for the Rotary exchange program. Gilliam will be going to Italy, Fine to Belgium and Conrad to Leon, France.

Senator Square: Carson High's Tami Burgoon named Classified Employee of the Year

The CHS faculty and staff applauds Tami Burgoon, the 2016 Classified Employee of the Year. Tami’s particular job description requires her to both physically care for and academically work with students who have severe and profound learning disabilities. She exuberantly enjoys working with these students in the Comprehensive Life Skills class. This often requires Tami to lift, carry, feed, and assist with other physical challenges as these students need full-time adult supervision.

Senator Square: Senior projects and the special effects for everyone involved

The seniors of Carson High School will deliver their Senior Project speeches on April 18. Each student must deliver an 8-12 minute speech in front of 4-5 Carson City Community members, and this is no easy task as, statistically, many fear public speaking more than death.

Senator Square: Scott Vickrey named Carson High School's Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Scott Vickrey, the 2016 CHS Teacher of the Year, and Tami Burgoon, the CHS Classified Employee of the Year for 2016. Becoming Teacher of the Year is no easy task at Carson High School. With 104 teachers, not including other staff members, the CHS Teacher of the Year Award is an accomplishment most teachers will never receive, so winning an award like this required a great many people to say a great thing or two about Scott Vickrey.
