Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Heading into Thursday, today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Thank you law enforcement. CARSON CITY — Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Girl Scouts of the USA launched its 2020 Girl Scout Cookie season on Tuesday, encouraging Girl Scouts across the U.S. to become entrepreneurs, earning money to power their own leadership opportunities and adventures.

A mountain lion was spotted Tuesday morning in the hills in northwest Carson City in the Timberline area, prompting wildlife officials to urge residents to be aware and to take steps to avoid any chance of human and cougar contact.

Carson City's The Basil momentarily changed hands while undergoing a corporation change, but now, original owners Bob and Nan Watanar, who also serves as head chef, are back in the kitchen of the beloved Thai restaurant.

After spending thirty years creating delicious traditional Thai food on Carson Street, Bob and Nan wanted to pay forward their hard work and good fortune to those in need.

Bob and Nan set off for Bangkok, where they funded a school for abused children who were being looked after by Nuns. They helped create a commercial kitchen at the school, where the children are now learning how to run their own restaurants.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced the awarding of $22,639.60 in statewide grants to support individual artists in the production and presentation of artistic projects that will occur between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2020.

The Carson City First United Methodist Church will once again be re-enacting the night of Christ’s birth at it’s 19th Annual Drive-Through Living Nativity.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. A 38-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday, 6:32 p.m. in the 2500 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor warrants, fictitious registration and driving on a suspended license, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a suspect in a hit and run incident earlier this month.

CARSON CITY — The holiday season generally doesn’t lack in opportunities for children to have fun, with numerous special events and activities open to all. For children who are battling cancer or those with compromised immune systems, those opportunities aren’t nearly as great.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses including possession of counterfeit money and possession of debit and credit cards that did not belong to him, a sheriff's deputy report states.

The annual Empty Bowls fundraising night is underway and will continue throughout Saturday night.

Empty Bowls is an “international grassroots effort” to fight hunger around the world.

In our local community, volunteers work throughout the year to create handcrafted bowls. Each year, hundreds of bowls are crafted in Carson City for the purpose of the fundraiser.

A 29-year-old Carson City man and a 25-year-old Carson City man were arrested for multiple felonies including burglary, possession of a stolen fire arm, possession of burglary tools, and more.

If there is one lesson that 2019 has taught me, it’s that I can’t do it alone. I can’t generate business alone. I can’t work myself through that tough day alone. I can’t do my life alone. Life and business require support. Yet, so many people are afraid to ask for help. They see it as a burden that they have a need. Carson Valley Community Theatre will be holding auditions for two new productions, Putnam County Spelling Bee and "Nunsense II," on Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. Mark your calendars and come to The Annex, 1572 Hwy 395 in Minden to audition for one, or both, productions.
