Weekend events result in big business for Carson City

The inaugural Carson City Off-Road racing series, part of the Epic Rides mountain biking circuit, was more than successful.

It was epic.

Todd Sadow, co-founder and president of Epic Rides, said the race around the Nevada state capital exceeded expectations.

Boot Barn grand reopening on Friday

The Boot Barn is celebrating its grand reopening beginning Friday, March 11 at its new location in the Topsy Lane shopping center in South Carson City.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled at noon Friday at 935 Topsy Lane, site of the Boot Barn's new retail space.

There will be food, prizes and giveaways at the event.

The Boot Barn moved last month from its former location in the Carson Mall, where it had been for about eight years.

Gas explosion damages two vehicles, interrupts traffic on U.S. 395 and Mica Drive

An apparent gas main leak at the entrance to the Sunridge subdivision caused an explosion that damaged at least two vehicles and disrupted traffic on Highway 395 and Mica Drive in Douglas County.

Catmandu closed to the public Oct. 5-13

Catmandu will be closed to the public October 5-13, reopening October 14th. This is our bi-annual closure for deep cleaning, reorganizing and winterizing. We will be working on these special projects 10/8, 10/9 and 10/10 from 11-4. Please come by and lend a hand if you can. Every helping hand makes a difference!

We will re-open on Wednesday, October 14th at 11 a.m. We currently have an abundance of adorable kittens as well as lovely adult cats waiting to meet you. If you are looking for a furry friend please consider adopting a homeless cat or kitten. They make wonderful forever friends!

NDOT: Section of State Route 342 temporarily closed for bypass construction

A section of State Route 342 south of Gold Hill will temporarily be closed beginning Tuesday through Nov. 12 for finishing construction of a Comstock Mining Inc. project to realign the road, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Carson City Sears Store unveiling its new design

Carson City Sears Hometown Store, 3917 N. Carson St., is unveiling its new store design and retail strategy, offering a new product assortment, redesigned merchandising, new fixtures and signage, and comprehensive employee training, among other changes. The refresh culminates with a grand reopening celebration Aug. 21-22.

Forest Service: Progress made on Kyburz Fire, Highway 50 may reopen today

The Kyburz Fire in El Dorado County is 30 percent contained as of Friday morning and has burned around 200 acres. Highway 50 remains in both directions.

Fire officials say opening Highway 50 is a priority and are looking at re-opening at least one lane by late Friday afternoon or evening once safety concerns are mitigated.

The Kyburz Fire is located in the canyon of the South Fork of the American River, west of the community of Kyburz. The fire is currently in the lower half of the canyon east of Whitehall on both sides of the American River.

South Lake Tahoe marijuana collective raided Monday

A large team made up of members from multiple agencies served a search warrant on South Lake Tahoe's sole marijuana collective and the home of its owner, Cody Bass, early Monday morning.

Agents from the Franchise Tax Board, Board of Equalization, Department of Insurance, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and El Dorado County Sheriff's Department were on scene at the Tahoe Wellness Cooperative, according to Tami Grimes, information officer with the FTB in Sacramento.

Farmers Bank Open House: Tours set for May 12 for renovated historic Minden building

Sinking road forces NDOT to close portion of State Route 342 from Devils Gate to Gold Hill

The Nevada Department of Transportation said Sunday night that it has temporarily closed a portion of State Route 342 south of Gold Hill as a safety precaution following recent roadway cracking and sinking.

State Route 342 runs approximately from the Silver City area through Gold Hill to southern Virginia City, connecting U.S. 50 west of Dayton to Virginia City. An approximately two-mile portion of the road between Devils Gate and Gold Hill is closed to traffic (between mile markers 2 and 4).

Carson Horseshoe Club closes for operational changes, property is for sale

The Horseshoe Club has been located on the corner of Carson Street and Telegraph, at the heart of Downtown Carson City, and serving the public for over 40 years. It was opened by Gene Chaney in the early 70’s, and is currently owned by his five adult children, two of whom grew up in Carson and currently operate the small business primarily for the local residents.

Kingsbury Grade to reopen Tuesday morning

State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade, closed since September to through traffic as part of a $15 million Nevada Department of Transportation pavement reconstruction project, is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Construction work will continue on the project over the next weeks.

Horizon Casino at South Shore Lake Tahoe to close April 1

An era comes to an end on April 1 when the Horizon Casino Resort on the south shore of Lake Tahoe closes for renovations.

The resort was the one time local showcase of Elvis Presley and Liberace when the casino operated as Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe.

BLM Closing Campground at Indian Creek Reservoir on Oct. 8

Alpine County's Indian Creek Campground, adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir, will close for the season at noon on Oct. 8, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office announced.
The campground will be closed through winter, and reopen May 3, 2013.
The east side of Indian Creek Reservoir will still be available for access off the entry road maintained by Alpine County, weather-permitting.
