Storey County cancels Virginia City Fireworks amid COVID-19 concerns, Cruise to continue as planned
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Tue, 06/30/2020 - 3:57pmAccording to Storey County Commissioner Jay Carmona the fireworks show in Virginia City has been canceled today as of 1 p.m. The Cruise will be continuing as planned.
According to Carmona, there was an issue with releasing the cancellation announcement but the fireworks are indeed cancelled this year.

The Monarch Fire was reported at 12:41 p.m. on June 24, 2020, and is burning three miles south of Sierra Spirit Ranch in Douglas County.

Peavine Fire reignites forcing evacuations; no containment, fire burns 1,500 acres

At 9 p.m., the fire was estimated at 1,500 acres and zero percent contained. Local, state, county, and federal firefighters are on scene.

UPDATE 6:04 p.m.: 250 personnel from multiple agencies including the Carson City Fire Department are on scene battling the fire. The acreage is estimated at 650 acres.

The Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Mono County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties, Hawthorne, Yerington, Smith Valley, Mina, Schurz, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Silver Springs, Nixon, and Imlay.
