Nevada Department of Public Safety appoints first woman to NHP colonel command

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti has appointed Anne Carpenter as Colonel of the Nevada DPS, Highway Patrol Division. Colonel Carpenter officially takes command of the Nevada Highway Patrol on Monday, October 19, 2020. She will oversee 491 sworn officers and 96 non-sworn personnel.

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Chugg

Happy Friday Carson City! Pet of the Week has been on hiatus for a little bit, but for a good reason: there were no animals at the shelter for adoption!

However, say hello to Chugg, who is our adorable Pet of the Week today.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.  

DETR: Regular Initial Claims Up While PUA Initial Claims Dip; PEUC Continued Claims Well Above 60,000

According to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,964 for the week ending October 10, up 1,023 claims, or 12.9 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,941 claims.

Through the week ending October 10, there have been 719,311 initial claims filed in 2020, 697,659 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Fall train rides, 'Light after Dark' fitness event, live music and more highlight Carson City area weekend events

Gov. Sisolak proclaims October Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada

Recognizing the cultural and economic impact the arts community makes in the Silver State, Gov. Steve Sisolak has proclaimed October to be Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada.
