Carson City Republican Women to meet Tuesday, September 17

Carson City Republican Women invites its members and the community to hear speakers Rebekah Bock and Don Gibson from the Mobile Outreach Safety Team.

This program is in conjunction with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and is designed to be more preventative in helping the mentally ill before going to jail rather than reactive once they are in jail.

Nevadans encouraged to explore healthcare plans following report highlighting uninsured

CARSON CITY — In light of a recent report released by the Guinn Center for Policy Priorities surrounding Nevada's uninsured populations, the State of Nevada and the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s state agency that helps connect individuals to budget-appropriate health coverage through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link, remind Nevadans of the importance of having health insurance and encourages them to explore insurance coverage available to them through Nevada Health Link.

Vigil planned to recognize and prevent opioid overdose; training provided Thursday

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Receives Generous Donation from Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City donated proceeds raised from community rummage sale to Carson City Search and Rescue to support the replacement of an aging search and rescue vehicle. A generous donation in the amount of $3,147.25 was presented on July 24, which will join funds already raised for the vehicle purchase.

Nevada Arts Council announces fiscal year 2020 grant recipients

But, more than 1,200 people filed “felt reports” following the magnitude 3.7 earthquake in Washoe Valley the night of June 6.
